HOMEGROWN ROCKER 9/6/15

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 6 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we checked out what new recordings have arrived in the "Homegrown Rocker" mailboxes in recent weeks, meaning maximum local and regional music was on the agenda! We debuted several new songs, including numbers from Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats, Aeb Byrne, The Hidden Agendas, Gas Station Disco, The Wild Huckleberries and Dethrattle. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2002 number by Grinning Mob from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from North Carolina-based acoustic duo Birddog, and reviewed Johnny Searfoss' self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BACKLASH - "Days Gone Past"
ROCK CITY CANDY - "Saturday Night"
MISS MELANIE & THE VALLEY RATS - "Brother John" (live)
THE STRAYERS - "I'm Not Running"
AEB BYRNE - "Ain't Got None"
COASTAL REMEDY - "Cozy"
SMOOTH SOUND - "Come See Meh"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Neighbors"
BORROWED TIME - "Mississippi Man"
MOUNTAIN ROAD - "Walkin'"
DOPPLER AFFECT - "Which Way to Go"

HOUR TWO:

LIES, INC. - "Hypnotic"
THE HIDDEN AGENDAS - "Doppelgangin'"
GAS STATION DISCO - "The Right Time"
JOHNNY SEARFOSS - "She's Got Something"
THE WILD HUCKLEBERRIES - "Ink Spots" (live)
GRINNING MOB - "Black Walnut" (2002, Local Music Flashback)
BIRDDOG - "Grocery Carts" (Across State Lines)
PURE CANE SUGAR - "Leg Up" (live)
DETHRATTLE - "Point You've Missed"
SMALL TOWN TITANS - "Universal Limits"

Next week, we will again empty the "Homegrown Rocker" mailboxes to see what new recordings have arrived, and share the new music with you! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an out-of-state independent band or artist, and review The Tommy Roberts' self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOVEMBER 29 - Local Music Live in Concert Special
DECEMBER 20 - Christmas Special

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)
