HOMEGROWN ROCKER 8/30/15 (AFTER THE FALL)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 30 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we caught up with western PA-based hard rockers After The Fall (www.reverbnation.com/afterthefall)! In a conversation recorded on location under a pavilion near Ebensburg's Lake Rowena, we learned the latest After The Fall happenings; including the introduction of their new guitarist Zac Sheppard, and the unveiling of the group's newest CD, My Confession! We featured tracks from the new disc, plus gave listeners chances to call in to win their own copy! Along the way, we debuted a new song from Chip DiMonick, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2003 number by State College's Axum from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Jakesway's self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

GIORNESTO - "Restless"
NAILDRIVER - "Seal the Exit"
AFTER THE FALL - "Walls"
INSIDE OUT - "Demons Inside"
AFTER THE FALL - "Call to Arms"
CHIP DIMONICK - "Hand Grenade"
AFTER THE FALL - "My Confession"
HATRED RISING - "Life (Let it Go)"

HOUR TWO:

PROGMIUM - "Rejected"
SKELL - "Haven't Decided Yet"
AFTER THE FALL - "Scream"
JAKESWAY - "Broadcast"
AFTER THE FALL - "For Me"
AXUM - "The Point" (2003, Local Music Flashback)
AFTER THE FALL - "Still Here"

Next week, it will again be time to empty the "Homegrown Rocker" mailboxes to see what new recordings have arrived, and share the new music with you! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an out-of-state independent band or artist, and review Johnny Searfoss' self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOVEMBER 29 - Local Music Live in Concert Special
DECEMBER 20 - Christmas Special

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Performer showcase submissions are now being accepted for the 20th annual Millennium Music Conference, which will take place from February 19-21 of next year at the Best Western Premier, the Central Hotel and Conference Center in Harrisburg. The conference will again feature two afternoons of music industry panels, clinics, workshops, networking, mentoring, day stages, a trade show, and three nights of showcase performances from nearly 300 different performing groups and artists from Pennsylvania, the Northeast and around the world. In celebration of 20 years, there is no submission fee for showcasing and participating performers through September. For more information on the conference and submissions, visit the Millennium Music Conference website, www.musicconference.net.

Area hard rockers Lies, Inc. introduced their new guitar player during last weekend's Stay Green Benefit at Patton Park in Patton. The new guitar player is Bob Hiles, who takes over after Jarrett Bickel's departure from the group last year.

Pittsburgh heavy rockers Skell recently returned to live stage action with a new drummer. Jordan McClure takes over behind the kit, replacing Keith Kweder, who passed away unexpectedly in January. Skell with their new drummer made their official return to action during the Rock for Life Benefit concert at Iselin Ballfield near Saltsburg earlier this month.

The Sitch has announced that Jeff Hahn takes over drumming duties for the group, replacing the exiting Huck James.

Area rockers Rapid Fire have announced that they are taking an indefinite hiatus from live performing, citing personal lives and other obligations. The group's final show before the break took place on Saturday night (Aug. 29) at the Curwensville Moose.

And two new bands are surfacing on area stages...Texas Whiskey Authority played their debut performance on Saturday night (Aug. 29) at McGarvey's in Altoona. This group features former G211 membrs Tony Tamburini on drums and Big Jim Ricotta on bass and vocals, and the sibling guitar and singing tandem of Sean and Matt Nagy. They perform classic rock favorites. And debuting in September will be Bone Jacked, an Altoona-based foursome featuring former Red Arrow members Terry Wilt on drums and Michael Gherrity on bass, Jeremy Gena on lead guitar and Mat Wirtner on lead vocals. Bone Jacked will perform classic rock and blues, and will make their stage debut on September 25 at Pellegrine's in Altoona.
