END OF SUMMER JAM AUG. 21 & 22

The 14th annual End Of Summer Jam will take place the weekend of August 21 & 22. This is the longest running outdoor benefit jam in central Pa. Proceeds benefit the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital...remember, kids come first!

Many of you are probably signed up, but I think there are a few slots available. PM me and I'll see what's up with that.

I will be running sound all weekend, and will try to record a CD of each band. This worked out very well at the 2002 Jam. JP, I will hang on to the CDs this time, in case you would like to review them. Afterward, bands can contact me if they'd like a copy.

For all of you who are signed up to play, I'd appreciate it if you could PM your sound requirements, i.e. miked instruments and vocals, keys, etc.

I'll probably go with bass drum, snare drum and 3-4 hot condensers around the drums rather than miking each tom with overheads.

I'd like to play it! All I need is a vocal mic on a boom (prefer a SM-58, but any decent mic will do) and a DI (passive okay). I can be onstage and ready in about 5 min. I love kids charities, and the chance to play with buds. Maybe I'll even get a chance to finally see you play! Let me know.------->JMS

I'm not sure they had acoustic acts in mind, but last year, a bunch of people got up and jammed on Sunday morning.

I'm basically playing 1st each day as a sound check, with a full set on Sunday.

SM-58? I use Shure SM-87 condensers, EV ND757B (for lead) and EV ND357B (for the ladies) on vocals.

I've had, and tried, them all, as part of my day job, and while I like the Audix OM-3xb for band stuff (just for me... most people don't like 'em, and they're not for high female voices), I still gravitate to the SM-58. It's a known quantity, I'm used to the response curve, and I saw a rep hammer a nail with one once. I have 5 or 6 vocal mics of my own, and I just like the old 58 I got from Sam Kinison... it's tradition, I guess.

Audix stuff is great...I have a bunch of D1s that do the trick for toms and guitars. They're supposed to be for snare, but their flatter response works with just about anything. Haven't tried any of their vocal stuff yet, but I hear they kick butt. The SM87 is like an SM58 on steroids with extra crispness but not quite the presence peak. I wouldn't hammer nails with them though!
