HOMEGROWN ROCKER 6/8/14

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 8 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com). The show can also be streamed via either Rocky website, www.rocky1049.com or www.rocky99.com.

This week, we took the opportunity to empty the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes to check out some of the new recordings we have received in recent weeks! As a result, we debuted new songs from Pure Cane Sugar, Billy Reighns, One Adam 12, Small Town Titans, J.R. Wolf, Mango West and Hatred Rising! We also stepped “Across State Lines” twice on the program; first speaking with and playing a song from Colorado’s Danielle Anderson, known on stage as rising ukulele star Danielle Ate the Sandwich! We also stepped “Across State Lines” during the second hour to hear from Baltimore’s The Herd of Main Street! In addition, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1998 track by Finster from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Thunder Vest’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist (the year of each track is in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

HYBRID ICE – “Fight Another Day”
FLIGHT 19 – “Migraine”
PURE CANE SUGAR – “Babblefish” (live)
THE BLUE HORNET BAND – “Mixed Up Morning Blues”
BILLY REIGHNS – “Up at Dawn”
LOVEBETTIE – “Downpour”
DANIELLE ATE THE SANDWICH – “Pet Store” (Across State Lines)

ONE ADAM 12 – “Wolfsbane”
SMALL TOWN TITANS – “Universal Limits”

MANGO WEST – “Intimidation” 87EE

On our next program, in honor of Father’s Day, we will again present our annual Father’s Day Special, and celebrate family traditions in the area music scene! We will hear music from local music scene dads, moms, sons and daughters, including a few tracks with entire families participating! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” and review Retro Rocket’s self-titled CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner!” The Father’s Day edition of the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

Although Pennsylvania music legends The Badlees have announced the end of the line as a band, their music continues to receive accolades. The Badlees’ music will be a major part of the upcoming film Trust Me, which is about a fictitious band called The Damnsels. Coincidentally, all of the music played by The Damnsels will actually be songs performed by The Badlees. Shooting for the film will happen in Lancaster this coming Saturday, June 14, and the filmmakers are looking for extras to be Damnsels fans at a show at The Chameleon Club in Lancaster. Fans interested in being a part of the film are invited to email info@trustmefilm.com and simply say "I'm a Badlees fan and I'd like to be an extra."

Another female-themed hard rock show has been announced for July. Following such events as last year’s Halos and Harlots Festival in Altoona and Female Voices of Metal II in Pittsburgh earlier this year, the Women of Metal Fest will take place on Saturday, July 12 at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh. The all-day event will begin at 2 p.m., and feature performances from the bands A Sound of Thunder, Beyond Eden, Leeja Stark, Lies Inc., Midnight Eternal, MindMaze, Theatrum Mundi, Writing Off Tomorrow and more. For more details about the event, visit the website www.womenofmetalfest.com.
