STAR WARS - Now or 1977-1983?

Post by JayBird »

I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan...any others? Just wanted to get other fan's views of current movies vs. older movies.

Also, anyone have a collection they'd like to discuss. I myself have a limited amount of vintage figures, but I have almost all the new figures from the mid-90's(re-release) to the present...that's what they make attics for! I also have many store diplays...the biggest being my 6' x 4' Naboo Fighter...Wal-Mart display. I have 3 store Standees(Yoda(Ep. II DVD/Movie release ad), Watto(Pepsi), and Jar-Jar(M. Dew), Pizza Hut promo banners, K-Mart promo signs/stickers.

Just Curious...thanks.

all depends on episode 3

and they shouldnt have killed Maul off so easily, although Dooku is pretty cool. I do hate all the computer generated stormtroopers, I dunno, like I said I need to see 3 before I can truly say.

Old school all the way! The old ones had sort of a gritty realism to them, especially the first two. The new ones have a shiny plastic fakeness to them. It's worth the price of admission to watch all the stuff running around blowing up, but I don't get caught up in them as much.

I am die hard original ... " episode 4 baby " . I have been very disappointed in the new ones , but like Deviance I have high hopes for the forth coming final installment, I really hope it fills the holes and leaves me full and satisfied.
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

The old ones are way better. The story seems easier to follow, not so many lame characters. There is just something about the originals that is mysterious, unlike the new ones which just seem like your ordinary sci-fi flick. I dunno, I like the older ones.

I think they could have done without Ep 1 all together and just started the story with Ep 2 being the begining of the saga. The whole "my mom died so now i hate" could have been done just as easy with quick flash backs instead of using most of Ep 1 to show that yes......he loves his mommy. Starting the training as a teen and flashing back to breaking from slavery and losing connection to his mother would have moved the story along a little faster. The first one was such a let down after waiting how many years for a new star wars film. Ep 2 showed more promise with the begining of the empire, hints of darkness in the hero, and yoda in his prime. Hopefully 3 will be better than the first two, but I think Lucas has lost a step. I mean c'mon the guy "was" going to put the backstreet boys in as extras just because his daughter liked them until fans around the world threatened to boycot the movie. Just as Sharon & Jack run the OzzFest, I think it's Lucas' kids who have major influance over the new films.

Whenever I was a kid and saw it for the first time, I thought episode 4 WAS the first episode. After seeing it a few times and finally catching that it wasn't the actual first, I thought someone made a mistake or something. Hey, we were all dumb kids once.....Hmmm...Wait, I'm still a kid...Just grown up. ;)

Old skool all the way. But I must say this...it was worth them doing one cheesie exra Star Wars just to see Yoda flippin' the freak out! No wonder he has back problems later on in episodes 4-6. "Hmm you too a cane need when rescuing stupid young jedi's with light sabers. Yes, yes. Stupid they are. Whack I am. Yes, yes." ::does the best Yoda impression ever heard::

My favorite was EP 4, probably because it was a full story in itself and it was the first movie/first impression. At the time, I had no idea there would be more--sequels? prequels? wtf was that? I was 18 and probably saw it 25 times that summer at the 764 Drive-In party bank. EPs 2, 5 & 6 were all very good and I like them all about the same. They just don't have the same magic as EP 4. I haven't seen EP I (sounds like I didn't miss much)...damn that starz channel anyway.

We had named our band FORCES the summer before that (1976), and Star Wars turned out to be very good for business.

I love the old un-touched originals of IV, V, & VI... but the cleaned-up versions of those are pretty cool. Episode IV was like a firy tale, or a western that just happened to take place in space, all the others were all-out sci-fi...

I guess I'm in the minority, in that I think I & II are great, and totally live up to the Star Wars brand.

It will be interesting in to see how they tie up the loose ends in III. For instance, I'm thinking that somewhere along the line, the droids' memories will have to be erased, since in IV, why wouldn't R2 and C3PO know Obi-Wan, or at least recognise the name? But I guess the same could be argued as to why Obi-Wan didn't recognize them. On the other hand, it sort of plays into the arrogance of his character to have never cared enough about droids to remember them.

Just one of the many things I wonder about...

Episodes IV and VI (the first and third movie) are still my favorites. The Death Star battle climax in IV still gives me an adrenaline rush!

There are wbesites devoted to this & other questions... perhaps he used the force on their electronics to block the memory, or they were ordered not to remember him.
