HOMEGROWN ROCKER 7/14/13 (SMOKED COUNTRY JAM)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 14 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

This week, we did something a little different on the program. We spotlighted last month’s 10th annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival (www.smokedcountryjam.com), which took place at Quiet Oaks Campground north of Renovo. In our “Backstage at Smoked Country Jam” special, we recapped the festival, heard comments from some of the musicians and organizers involved in the event, and checked out music from some of the more than 20 bands and artists who performed at the festival. Included were the three finalists in the Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest, and audio clips from the finale performance by the Hillbilly Gypsies and friends. We also reviewed a CD by one of the bands who performed, the self-titled debut CD by Harrisburg’s Colebrook Road, in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BLUE ROOTS – “To Love Somebody”
VAN WAGNER – “Shikellamy”
HOT DAY AT THE ZOO – “Gypsy Moon”
TUSSEY MOUNTAIN MOONSHINERS – “Blues Stay Away from Me”

MAMA CORN – “Stoney Lonesome”
DRYMILL ROAD – “It Ain’t Coming Back”
NORA JANE STRUTHERS – “Party Line”
CHAD DAROU & STEALING TIME – “Somebody’s Knockin’”
CUMBERLAND RIVER – “Let the Moonshine Flow”

HOUR TWO:

JIM GAUDET & THE RAILROAD BOYS – “Walk of Life”

PALMER DRUCK – “They’re Moving Baltimore to Southern PA” (performed 6/22/13 at Smoked Country Jam)
JASON TEEL AND CHUCK COX – “Red Arrow Train”
PAT KENNEALLY – “Duffy’s Cut” (performed 6/22/13 at Smoked Country Jam)
COLEBROOK ROAD – “Something in the Night”
REVEREND WILLARD’S ACOUSTIC CIRCUS – “Gotta Keep on Truckin’” (performed 6/21/13 at Smoked Country Jam)
HILLBILLY GYPSIES w/GUS TRISCH – “Bile ‘Em Cabbage Down” (performed 6/22/13 at Smoked Country Jam)

HILLBILLY GYPSIES/ALL-STAR JAM – “Smoked Country Jam-o” (performed live 6/22/13 at Smoked Country Jam)

On our next program, we welcome the return of Hollidaysburg-based singer/songwriter Rich Edmundson! We will find out the latest happenings with Rich, hear tunes from his new CD, and he will bring acoustic guitar and do one or two live for us! We will also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive to unveil another “Local Music Flashback,” and review The Crew of the Half Moon’s Automythography CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Rich Edmundson returns to the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

And the “Homegrown Rocker” is available for digital download off either Rocky website after each and every show. Just check on either (www.rocky1049.com) or (www.rocky99.com) and download your copy of the show!
