HOMEGROWN ROCKER 6/9/13

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 9 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Originally, we were to have a band guest on the show, but the logistics fell through and we couldn’t make the interview happen. So instead, we took another opportunity to empty the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes and debut plenty of new music that has arrived in recent weeks! We debuted songs from Chris Rattie, Fatality Risen, Dance Fairies Dance, Hate Grenade, Xander Demos, The Hawks Blues Band, Victor Jenks, GG & the Assassins and There There. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1997 song by Petey Gets Around from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to check out a number from Syracuse, New York jamsters Dark Hollow, and reviewed The Lone Wolf Project’s Old Words, New Chapters CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RIK GOLDEN – “Something Else (in Mind)
THE LAMPSHADES – “I’m So Different”
CHRIS RATTIE – “So Long”
MATT WAGNER – “You Never Know”
FATALITY RISEN – “Speak Out”
SECOND EMPIRE – “The Valley Beneath”
DANCE FAIRIES DANCE – “Solitary Fairy”
MYCENEA WORLEY – “( Lives”
HATE GRENADE – “Vendetta”
7TH LAYER – “Change in Me”
MILEUNDER – “Spacegirl”

HOUR TWO:

THE SITCH – “Goblin Zeppelin”
XANDER DEMOS – ”Guitarcadia”
THE HAWKS BLUES BAND – “So All Alone” (live)
THE LONE WOLF PROJECT – “The Bridge”
VICTOR JENKS – “Chessgame”
PETEY GETS AROUND – “Choke and Roll” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
DARK HOLLOW – “Sunday Jam” (live) (Across State Lines)
MYSTERYTRAIN – “Send Me a Smile” (live)
GG & THE ASSASSINS – “Talk Is Cheap”
THE WHATLEYS – “Whiskey and Failure”
THERE THERE – Weight of the World”
MONSTER TRACK SUPERGROUP – “Indian Reservation”

With our next program falling on Father’s Day, we will do what we normally do on Father’s Day, celebrate area music family traditions with our Father’s Day Special! We will hear songs involving area music scene dads, moms, sons and daughters, including a few songs with entire families! Helping us along the journey will be two different groups with family traditions on the area music scene – our primary guests Born & the Beanstalk, and 2nd Street! We will meet the dads and sons with both bands, and both will perform live for us! We will also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review a new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” We celebrate area music family traditions on the “Homegrown Rocker” Father’s Day Special, next Sunday night!

And the “Homegrown Rocker” is available for digital download off either Rocky website after each and every show. Just check on either (www.rocky1049.com) or (www.rocky99.com) and download your copy of the show! If you live beyond the signal range of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99, you can now download west-central PA’s longest-running local music show!

In Local Music News…

The second annual Bedford County Rock’n’Ride for Charity event will happen next Saturday, June 15, at the Bedford County Fairgrounds. Proceeds from the combination motorcycle ride and live music event will benefit ten local charities. The music begins at noon, and will feature music from Midnight Rodeo, Revised Edition, Vice Versa, Troy Huber, The Sitch, Borrowed Time, S.O.L., Money Shot, Tic-Tac, Fueled By Ignorance, Ganister and Seize Fire. There will be vendors, prizes, food and refreshments. Donation at the gate is $15 per person.

The music world mourns the passing of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna drummer Joey Covington this past week. Covington died in a car crash Tuesday in Palm Springs, California. He was 67. A native of Johnstown, Covington moved out to the San Francisco area in his teens, and became a member of Pacific Gas and Electric, and later joined Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. He subsequently had a solo career.

Pittsburgh-based symphonic metal rockers Second Empire will release their debut CD with a special album release event this Saturday night at Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh. The show will also feature performances from Stark, Klaymore and the Xander Demos Band.
