Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 2 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guests, Mark Lux, Shawn Mock and B.J. Ritko of Johnstown modern rockers Ground Resonance (http://www.reverbnation.com/groundresonance)! We learned the band’s story and the origin of their name (ground resonance is an aeronautical term referring to ground impact that disrupts a helicopter rotor cycle and can potentially destroy the aircraft), and we heard recorded music from them! Since Mark Lux was in the studio, we dug into his past for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” pulling out a 1997 track from his former band, Bonedigger! We also debuted a new song from Giornesto, and reviewed John Hahn’s Darkness Falls CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

In Local Music News…

This year’s second annual Striking Chords Against Cancer benefit concert for the American Cancer Society happens next Saturday, June 8 at Altoona’s Railroaders Museum. The event will start at 2 p.m., and will feature performances from Travis Singer, 7th Gear, Matt Wagner, The Hope Fallacy, Jackson Monsour, Pistol Peg & the Beer Kegs, Ryan Matthew, Flight 19, Drew Dodson and Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band. Advance tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the American Cancer Society and the Altoona Giant Eagle location. Rocky 104.9 air personalities will be emceeing the concert.

Two area bands are returning from brief retirements. Formerly based in Altoona but now calling Pittsburgh their home base, The Lampshades have reformed and are performing on the Pittsburgh indie scene, and are planning return visits to central Pennsylvania.

And after a two-year retirement, This Calling has announced that they are returning to action on central Pennsylvania stages.
