18 Names

Post by daveb »

All this "remember when" is making me misty for a great Pittsburgh band called 18 Names. Hard rocking outfit. I really dug them mid 80's to early 90's. Karla Goldman, their singer, put out a solo album and I saw her at a club in Butler. It was a great show. Does any one remember them? and if so, does anyone know what became of the members, 'specially Karla. The drummer, Chris Procopio, played drums for another good hard rock band called Triple X.

Their bass player, Scott Bender, went on to greater things with National Recording act "Baton Rouge". They had an early '90s hit called "Walks Like a Woman". Other than Procopio joining Triple X, I don't know what any of the other members went on to do. Scott Boyd sang for some early version of 18 Names (must have been before Karla joined), and he went on to front Whiskey High. I have 18 names LP called "Armed & Dangerous" if you would like to give it a listen let me know.

I saw them around Clarion (possibly @ the Red Stallion) or Oil City back in the mid 80s. I even got a demo cassette from them back then. It was recorded live and sounded great back then. What all did they do? I remember Led Zeppelin, Heart...What else?

They did Kansas, Deep Purple, the did a lot of Pink Floyd. They used to do all of Shine on You Crazy Diamond. I used to run a record store in Clarion. I ended up with several copies of their Armed and Ready Lp if anyone is interested.

I rencently ran into Scott Bender in April, right before we headed to Key West. That's odd that his name is mentioned here. From what I met of him, he seems like a down to earth kind of guy.
