HOMEGROWN ROCKER 4/14/13

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 14 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

As we are inclined to do from time to time, this week we again emptied out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes to check out numerous new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! That meant lots of new music; we debuted new songs from Nowhere Slow, Tombasco Band, Monster Track Supergroup, The Crew of the Half Moon, Burden My Surrender, The Lux and The Sitch. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1992 song by Baltimore’s Great Train Robbery from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to check out a track from Boston’s Continental, and reviewed Big Atlantic’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

GRANATI BROS. – “The Sun in Your Eyes”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Just Want to Disappear”
NOWHERE SLOW – “Made You Look”
PAINTED BY MILLIONS – “Come Along”
TOMBASCO BAND – “Definitely Maybe”
MONSTER TRACK SUPERGROUP – “Indian Reservation”
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON – “A Bed of Green”
LOOK LEFT – “Mine”
WHITEY NOLL w/JOE AGOGLIA – “Curtains and Clouds”
SHELDON PORT – “Broken Down”

HOUR TWO:

RIK GOLDEN – “Something Else (In Mind)”
VICE VERSA – “Hard Habit”
BURDEN MY SURRENDER – “A Mind Invasion”
BIG ATLANTIC – “New Beginning”
THE LUX – “Old Is New”
GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY – “Short Sets, Long Breaks, Big Money” (1992, Local Music Flashback)
CONTINENTAL – “Red” (Across State Lines)
THE WHATLEYS – “Whiskey and Failure”
THE SITCH – “All Things Considered”
Xs FOR EYES – “Orchard Street”
SAMARA – “Reclaim”

On our next program, we welcome a guest, Belsano-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Adam Ernst! Adam recently issued his second CD, Asphalt Dreams; we’ll hear songs from the CD, and discuss Adam’s music and career to date! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review Joey Welz’s Still Rockin’ Around the Clock CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

And the “Homegrown Rocker” is available for digital download off either Rocky website after each and every show. Just check on either (www.rocky1049.com) or (www.rocky99.com) and download your copy of the show! If you live beyond the signal range of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99, you can now download west-central PA’s longest-running local music show!

The Skye 2.0 line-up will feature former Skye members Ken Civils on keys and Bill Hocherl on drums, along with Adam D on vocals and keys, Todd Lane on guitar and Kris Civils on bass. The group will perform 1970s-era progressive and classic rock from names like Yes, King Crimson, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and more. That show is slated to start at 4 p.m.

Also next Sunday, Penn State Altoona will feature plenty of live local music as part of their annual Earth Day celebration, sponsored by the campus’ Eco Action organization. The music kicks off at 11 a.m. with Ragdoll Physics, followed at 12:30 p.m. by the Backyard Rockers,” an African drum circle presentation at 1:45, and Mysterytrain closing out the day starting at 3:30. There will also be environmental speakers, displays demonstrations, children’s activities and more. Admission to the Earth Day activities is free.

Monster Track Supergroup is set to release their first full-length CD within the next few weeks. The album, tentatively entitled Vol. II, will feature a mixture of original songs and classic covers, expanding upon the foundation established on the regional supergroup’s four-song EP two years ago.
