Looking to trade My Ibanez SR-905 for a 4 String

Post by Geetarzz »

I have a very nice Ibanez SR-905 that i'd like to trade even up for a 4 string of equal quality and value. This is a great bass, I just cannot get used to a 5 string. It features
SR5 thru-body neck,
5-piece maple and bubinga neck construction,
Flamed maple body,
Rosewood fretboard with 24 medium frets and oval abalone markers,
Accu-Cast B25 bridge,
Bartolini MK1-5 neck pickup,
Bartolini MK1-5 bridge pickup,
Black chrome hardware with black pickups,
Bartonini MK1 active 3-band EQ.
It would be great to find a Ibanez SR-900 or an SRT700DX, but they are longshots and I am open to any 4 strings of equal quality and value.

I had the same problem with getting used to a 5 stringer....now I own 2  It still messes me up at times but it's getting better :D . I bought a Ibanez 700DX...sent it back. It didn't sound as good as my 5 strings(Ibanez SRT 805DX). The tone I get from these basses just crush through my Mesa's.

Beautiful bass and those higher-end Ibanez's kill.

Thanks for the offer of the P Bass, but I'm going to hold out a little while. Like I said an SR-900 is a longshot, but I really do like this bass, if only it weren't a 5 string. It has incredibly low action on a very comfortable neck. And I'm really digging the growl and tone that the Bart's are putting out. So much so that I would happily trade this even up for an SR-900 that had been painted pink with a rattle can and had been used to shovel snow for awhile as long as it played and sounded like this 905.

I think you may find the 4 string version of these basses don't sound quite the same. The 700DX I tried was basically my bass in a 4 string...it didn't have the same tone like I thought it would. My guess would be that of course there is more wood than what the 4 string would have plus the E string sits over top the pick ups in a slightly different position. That's why I stayed with the 5...I agree though.....these basses got a great tone. Good luck!!
