Yes I have. However I've always reported my band earnings. So I filled out their paperwork in person, not over the phone.

If you make over $600 (per individual at their venue) they (if they're following the law) will need to send you a W2.

I know you do Bill. The problem is that at family Pizza they're issuing 1099's for 450.00. They give us a bullshit story about the PLCB. I'm just trying to figure out what the hell is going on!!!

Hawk is right. The amount is $600 or more. $599 or less and it is NOT required. I have been dealing with thsi for many years. The PLCB has nothing to do with it ever.

I do my own taxes and am well aware of most of the forms.
My question is: does anyone have any info on clubs in Altoona wanting to file 1099's all of a sudden? We play mostly out of town and have had no issue's until last night. We were handed form W-9, requesting our ss#'s.

They asked one of my bands to do that 3-4 years ago. They had never asked before and haven't asked since. I don't know why they only did it that one time. :?

1099 forms

Post by Hannibal »

It is an IRS regulation that requires the venue purchasing your services to file 1099 forms for amounts over $600.00 per calendar or tax year. It is NOT for each date you perform or work there. Most places will want the W-9 form filled out early in the year. Then the 1099 you get at the end of the year is for all the money they paid you throughout the year. As a contractor with some casual help, I have to follow the same rules. The IRS has tightened the rules for casual labor and subcontracted services. In order for the venue to deduct as expenses the amount they pay for bands, or sound companies, they must show via 1099 forms where the money went. It's that simple.
I love it when a plan comes together.

Yes.
It is profit that was made. You can in turn write 1099's to your other band members if they get would get over $600.
