10 types of metal in 3 minutes

Post by songsmith »

Youtube vid illustrates differences within a specific genre. It's by no means comprehensive, there are subgenres that are left out, but it is pretty cool, nonetheless, and reasonably accurate.

That was neat Johnny. Seemed kinda watered down and it blended together too much. Wouldve been cool if he changed his tone or tuning to better differentiate the genres more.
I like the thrash and prog metal the best from his examples. Folk metal  Unfortunately I think the OP is correct on that one.
Sabbat (UK thrash metal band) I'd say are the pioneers of Folk Metal. Atleast thats where the initial inspiration came from is Sabbat. They themselves were intending to be Thrash Metal, but their lyrics were full of imagery and folklore type things. Really neat stuff and they were ahead of their time imo. They were 1987-89, actually Andy Sneaps was their lead guitar player. Today he is heralded and renowned for his producing skills. Sabbat did a re-union about 2 or 3yrs ago, there's some youtube footage of them.

Anyways, thank for sharing that link, I enjoyed that.l

That was pretty cool. I liked the metalcore. I read through some of the comments and someone posted, and I feel that it was also important, that the percussion made a huge imprint on the genrés as well. Probably why I like metalcore so much.
