HOMEGROWN ROCKER 9/2/12 (FRED MYERS & REDNECK MAJORITY)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 2 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, rising area country music force Fred Myers & the Redneck Majority (http://fredmyersrednecks.com/). We met the band members and learned their story, including their recent signing to an independent record label and plans to record and issue a new album soon. We also heard songs from the group’s first album, Wild For You. Along the way, we debuted new songs from Pat McGinnis, The Backyard Rockers and Walt & Jackie. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1997 song by Pittsburgh’s Dharma Sons from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed the Mountain Road’s Country Rockin’ Blues CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SOUTH SIDE STRAYS – “Sprawl”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Coming Home to You”
FRED MYERS & THE REDNECK MAJORITY – “Redneck Majority”
PAT McGINNIS – “Shades of Gray”
FRED MYERS & THE REDNECK MAJORITY – “Never Too Late”
THE BACKYARD ROCKERS – “Tara’s Song”
FRED MYERS & THE REDNECK MAJORITY – “What Do You Live For”
ED RHOADES – “Volcano”

PURE CANE SUGAR – “Designated Driver”
MYCENEA WORLEY – “100 Days”
FRED MYERS & THE REDNECK MAJORITY – “Wild for You”
MOUNTAIN ROAD – “Nothing”

DHARMA SONS – “Hope You’re Happy” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
FRED MYERS & THE REDNECK MAJORITY – “I Love It”
WALT & JACKIE – “Steppin’ Stone”

Since the Pittsburgh Steelers begin their regular season with a Sunday night game at Denver next week, there will be no “Homegrown Rocker” next week. The show will return on Sunday, September 16, at our new football season air time of 9 to 11 p.m., and our guests will be Harrisburg area hard rockers Tukurpa! We will meet the band members and learn their story, and hear newly recorded tracks from them. Along the way, we will also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Images Of Eden’s Rebuilding the Ruins CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Tukurpa guests on the “Homegrown Rocker” when it returns on Sunday night, September 16!
