Music Trivia - New Wave edition

Post by StumbleFingers »

In the spirit of moxham123's questions, here's another odd bit of music trivia.

Paul Reynolds is the original guitarist for Flock of Seagulls. He was the dude with the humongous glasses.

He's accomplished something as a guitarist that Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, and Joe Satriani have not.

It puts him in the company of legends like Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carlos Santana, and Steve Vai.

What did he do?

Was it winning a Grammy?

I saw that he did movie soundtracks. But as far as anything else, I'm not sure. This has me interested now.

Eightball had the answer. It was winning a Grammy, specifically for a guitar instrumental. It's a nice little tune:

Flock of Seagulls - DNA

Jeff Beck has the most wins in the Rock Instrumental category with six. Page, Van Halen, and many other greats have been nominated without winning. Satriani has an amazing FOURTEEN nominations without a win. Rush is 0 for 6. The Police won twice and every member has been nominated as a solo artist too (only Sting won).

The award has been retired, so Satch may never get that Grammy.

Satch doesn't need a Grammy to show how great he is. Grammy's are a joke anyhow. All they are is prizes given out by suits in a board room who have no idea what music is.

Agreed, although it was a pretty cool award while it lasted. Researching this, there were some cool folks I didn't expect to see that were nominated over the years, like Holdsworth and Malmsteen. And they nominated pretty much every Rush instrumental from YYZ on.
