HOMEGROWN ROCKER 5/20/12

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 20 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Originally, we were to have a guest on this week’s program, but the logistics didn’t work out and we couldn’t bring you that interview. So instead, we went back to the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes to explore music from many of the new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted lots of new tunes, including numbers from The Dylanistas, Marshmellow Overcoat, Eric Val, Giornesto (World Without), Philip Masorti, Norman Nardini, Chubediah, Shark Tape, Graces Downfall, The Parachuting Apostles and Red. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2002 live track by Mike Swavely & the Chrome Magnatones from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to check out a song by All Too Human, and reviewed The Badlees’ See Me As A Picture: The Best So Far 1990-2012 CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Pink Parking Ticket”
J.D. EICHER & THE GOODNIGHTS – “Two Weeks Back”
THE DYLANISTAS – “Flicker, Flash, Bang”
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT – “Girl with the Red Hair”
ERIC VAL – “Signs”
GIORNESTO (WORLD WITHOUT) – “Righteous Due”
PHILIP MASORTI – “It’s Not My Fault”
NORMAN NARDINI – “People Takin’ Care”
CHUBEDIAH – “Keep Your Hands on the Wheel”
BRENNON JOHN – “Thomas and the Wishing Well”
SHARK TAPE – “Put Those Things Away”

HOUR TWO:

TABLE TEN – “Lift Me Up”
HANNAH BINGMAN – “Heart Like A Fist”
GRACES DOWNFALL – “Bottle”
THE BADLEES – “Promises”
THE PARACHUTING APOSTLES – “Marathon”
MIKE SWAVELY & THE CHROME MAGNATONES – “Mystery Train” (2002, Local Music Flashback)
ALL TOO HUMAN – “Thorn in My Side” (Across State Lines)
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Native to His Land”
RED – “My Amnesia”

Our next show is one of our most popular specials we present every year. For Memorial Day weekend, we take a journey down local music memory lane on the annual “Homegrown Rocker” Memorial Day Special! We’ll present two hours of music from past local and regional bands and artists, including lots of forgotten recordings and footage sure to stir memories! And during the show’s last half hour, we’ll pay homage to some of the area musicians we lost along the way. It’s one of the most popular editions of the “Homegrown Rocker” we do every year – check out the Memorial Day Special, next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JUNE 3 – JEFF PITTINGER
JUNE 10 – RON GALLUCCI
JUNE 17 – FATHER’S DAY SPECIAL
JUNE 24 – SETH CONNER
JULY 1 – ALLEGORY
JULY 8 – THE WHATLEYS
JULY 22 – GORDON TITTSWORTH (IMAGES OF EDEN/ALL TOO HUMAN)

In Local Music News…

More details have surfaced regarding the upcoming benefit show for area musician Jason Grodis. The “Jamming for Jason” benefit will take place on Friday evening, June 8 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Ashville Firehall. Proceeds will help out Jason and his family as Jason continues his battle against neuroendocrine carcinoma. The evening will feature performances from the bands Screaming Ugly, Locked and Loaded and a reunion of Jason’s former band Tie Down. There will also be a dinner, basket raffles and other activities. A website has been set up for the show; for tickets and to make donations to help Jason, visit the website www.jamforjason.com.

An area country group has signed an independent record label deal. Fred Myers & the Redneck Majority signed a contract this past week with Oklahoma-based indie label Tate Music Group. The group has been shopping their music and networking in Nashville over the past few months, and will be recording songs to present to country radio stations in the near future.

Todd Giornesto recently announced a name change for his resurgent band project. The group is now called World Without, since it has emerged into a full band project from Todd Giornesto’s initial plan to return to music.
