Van Halen calls off tour. Infighting again.

Post by f.sciarrillo »

Van Halen has called off 35 dates of their tour do to infighting. It looks like Roth and Eddie are at it again. They lasted longer than I thought they would. This is pitiful for the fans.

I am looking forward to their tour with Hagar next year (I don't know if it will happen, but it would be cool). Maybe that one will last longer than a month or two. I tell you, with all the friction this band has, MTV should just give them a reality show and let them have at it.

Then there is this. Directly from the Van Halen website.
[snip]

Van Halen Getting Along Fine, Taking a Break, And Planning to Extend Tour!

Just when we all were beginning to think we were going to get a killer Van Halen album and an entire tour without any drama whatsoever, look what happens!

Yesterday, Van Halen POSTPONED (not canceled!) most of their Summer tour dates with no reason given. Immediately, speculation ran wild. Fans wondered if there were health issues. Rolling Stone quotes a mysterious “source with knowledge of the tour” who supposedly said the band members “hate each other” and are “arguing like mad.”

The Van Halen News Desk now has some answers form our trusted and proven sources. Other than those Summer dates having to be moved, it’s actually good news.

First off, no one in the band is sick. No health problems.

Second, we knew right away that Rolling Stone’s “source” is completely wrong, and can not possibly be a person with actual inside knowledge of the tour, because all four band members have been getting along splendidly throughout the entire tour. Roth and the Van Halen’s talk every day, and they are all smiles on stage. Everyone who’s seen the tour or even youtube videos can confirm that.

In fact, the band is on such a high from playing together this year and they were really taken aback by the Rolling Stone quote. They’re older and wiser and haven’t had any issues with one another.

Why were these dates postponed? The band has been working tirelessly for the last 18 months – writing and recording “A Different Kind Of Truth”, filming the “Tattoo” video, rehearsing, putting together the show themselves (lighting, the videos, the stage, routing the tour, and lots of behind the scenes stuff that most people don’t even know about). The band wants the second leg to be as awesome as the first. And for that to happen they want to put more time into the planning of it. Not just continue on with the same show.

Van Halen is very enthusiastic about the rest of the tour and wants be on the road for a long time. Just how long remains to be seen, but we’ll say that the tour will probably continue into next year. They are now considering touring Australia and Japan in the near future.

As it stands now, the 31 postponed US shows are due to be rescheduled. There should be some sort of official announcement forthcoming.

I'm not a huge VH fan myself, although i watched some of those online interviews. They seem to be old friends getting along the best they can.I think they're just older and the prospect of living in a bus for 18 months at a clip seems a bit more lofty than what they thought it would be at this point.Eddie is killin it and DLR is the clown he's always been.I think it's cool just to see them doing it again.

I agree with that, Scott. Being a huge Van Halen fan, I am glad to see them back together, although I would love to see Michael Anthony back with them. Then will probably never happen. Micheal said in a recent interview that if he goes back with them he does, and if he doesn't, he doesn't. He is having too much fun in Chickenfoot.

Sounds like the same crap that "Fleetwood Mac" has been going through for years! But then why should they be any different than the rest of us trying to deal with the people that WE work with? Oh, that's right, they're rich and famous!!!

There are quite a few bands that are like that. Some you just don't hear about. When you spend days/months/years on the road with someone you will tend to fight with them. Which is why I think a lot of bands have it now where they tour for a couple of weeks, then have a couple of weeks off. And in that couple of weeks off, they don't talk to each other.

In fact, that is how Brooks and Dunn said they were able to stay together for so long. The only time Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn saw each other was in the studio, doing appearance, or on tour (Which while on tour, they had separate buses). When they were away from all that, they didn't talk to each other, and they did see each other. Ronnie was joking one time and saying that he doesn't even know Kix's phone number. Maybe that is how other bands should do it?

What this really boils down to is that they apparently have enough money, and they have better things to do.
It sucks when bands do this kind of stuff, when there are other bands who literally live off of their tour and struggle just trying to make it.

Putting myself in their shoes, I'd probably either quit, or I'd try my very best each and everyday while my health allowed me to, and while I was on the very edge of my prime as a musician.

I been to the edge, and there I stood and looked down...you know I lost alot of friends there baby, I got no time to mess around...
Mmm, so if you want it, got to bleed for it baby....Yeah, got to, got to bleed, baby....You got to, got to bleed, baby.....Hey, got to, got to bleed baby!

They should apply these words to their work ethic.

Be cool to see them do a stripped down album like the 1st one. They could do that in a weekend with some whores and a qp of blow.
