MTV and the lack of videos

I had a thought today, and while I agree that piracy etc is causing a TON of losses for the music industry. It seems that things really started to spiral for them when mtv etc stopped showing music on mainstream cable. I'd be willing to bet if the industry invested in a music channel and played actual music videos instead of that Jersey Shore garbage they would see huge profit increases. I thing the profit increases would totally outpace the cost of the network etc. Just a thought.
