Hello Everyone,

In Local Music News…
A special memorial show for former Monkees lead singer Davy Jones took place Saturday afternoon in Beavertown (east of Lewistown), where he used to own a residence. The memorial event started at the firemen’s carnival grounds in Beavertown, before moving into a former church that Jones had purchased that was to become a museum and theater. Part of the event’s activities included a jam session by invited musicians, and comments read from those who could not attend, including some of Jones’ Monkees bandmates. Davy Jones died from a heart attack at his home in Florida on February 29.
Legendary Pennsylvania band Hybrid Ice has two special shows coming up on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The band was recently selected by a Texas-based management agency to back several well-known classic rock frontmen during various tours this year, including former Survivor singer Jimi Jameson, former Rainbow frontman Joe Lynn Turner, former Ted Nugent singer Derek St. Holmes and former Toto singer Bobby Kimball. Hybrid Ice will perform two concerts with Jimi Jameson this Friday and Saturday nights. The Friday show will be at the Elks Ballroom in Lock Haven, while the Saturday concert will be in the Elks Ballroom in Danville. Both shows begin at 9 p.m. For ticket information about either show, visit Hybrid Ice’s website, www.hybridice.net.
Next weekend will be filled with St. Patrick’s Day-themed live music events. The Michael O’Brian Band and Full Kilt will both have full slates that day, but will both be part of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Party at the Oriental Ballroom in Gallitzin, sponsored by the Gallitzin Fire Company. That event starts at 6, and proceeds help out the Gallitzin Fire Company and the Gallitzin American Legion.
Commonwealth Press and Awkward Productions will again present the popular St. Patrick’s Day 814 Riot, which returns to the Altoona Ramada next Saturday night. Eight different bands will be generating the fury at that show, including Xs For Eyes, The Fisticuffs, the Rik Golden Band, The Hucklebucks, The Lobotomites, The Atomic Drops, The Whatleys, and Ben Dumm & the Deviants.
