Dad shoots daughters lap top. Who seen this?
I seen this the other day and think it is great. Although a little extreme. Any opinions?
He reads a post that his daughter made about her parents (Him and his wife) on facebook and then destroys the computer.
My only thing is that he should have taken a sledge hammer to it when he was done shooting it. Kids these days have no respect for their parents, or other adults.

A dickhead? The guy spent 6 hours and $130 bucks upgrading her computer, so she could use it to bash him as a parent all over facebook. There really needs to be a more hands-on approach from all parents if you ask me. Kids and teens now are spoiled fuckin rotten. 8 year olds with Ipods, and cell phones, and laptops?!! You know what my computer was when I was 8? An etch-a-sketch!! And I was happy to have that! Although an unconventional method, I applaud the guy for teaching his daughter a lesson in respect. She clearly feels a sense of entitlement and would probably go through life, feeling like the world owes her something.Larry wrote:I'm glad he's not my Dad. He seems like a complete dickhead.
I also believe a lot of today's youth, spend WAY too much time indoors thanks to 'technology'. Why go out and play basketball when you can play it on the wii? When I was young, decades ago, my parents had a helluva time getting me to come home! And I know I speak for the majority of 'us' who all would have rather have been outside playing baseball, or football, or fishing, or whatever as long as it was outside. Although intended to make life easier, technology has also made life lazier. So to all you parents out there....get those kids outside!

I wouldn't doubt that the very behaviors that piss him off so much were learned by her directly from him. It seems to me like a case of each one of them trying to one up the other. And, just because she did it in a public forum, doesn't mean he should too. He's supposed to be the adult. I'm not saying that her behavior shouldn't be addressed. I'm saying that he seems like a jerk, who thankfully, isn't my father.
He's playing her game, and she will win when Children's Services show up.

Yeah, i think it was great! more parents should be like that. Our job as parents is not to make sure your kids "like" you, it's to teach them right from wrong and respect and good work ethics. I also think it's bullshit that people are calling protective services on him but i'm sure nothing will come of that, all he did was prove a point and disciplined.
just my two cents.

this is a valid point though... most kids are acting out what they learn from their parents and role models. So possibly did learn her behavior from him... but from the sounds of things this wasn't her first offense so maybe he was just trying to find a way that would get to her and that's what he felt was the best course of action.
I still can't say that i blame the guy for the way he dealt with it... i'm sure it was pretty effective.

They may not have removed her from the home, but she has gained some leverage. Now he can not afford to do anything to make them come back.
Also, considering this happened in North Carolina, it's not surprising that the cops thought it was cool. We shoot guns off in the neighborhood all the time around here - seriously. As long as you don't hit someone's house, no one cares.

The guy is an idiot. I have no problem with disciplining a child/teen, but the fact that the guy posted the video online and the attitude in which he addressed the issue gives me the impression that the daughter's penchant for drama comes straight from the source. He approaches it more like a teenage peer with a chip on his shoulder and a desire to show off than as a parent. I can't respect that. Besides, some things just aren't for public consumption.
Edit: I just went through and read the rest of the posts...I agree with Larry.

If it were a Mac there'd be no need for a gun. There's an app for that.
There's also an app for parenting.
Maybe I need to check out the app for sense of humor...
