Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the January 29 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
We picked up where we left off last week, continuing to empty the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes and check out numerous new local and regional recordings that arrived over the past several weeks and months. We debuted new songs from Halestorm, Ground Resonance, Sheldon Port, Possibly Apostrophe, Absolution, The Jellybricks, Nothing To Prove, Medikaded, Synesthesia, One Pump Chump and Modern Rome. Along the way, we dug a 2001 song by Broken Neck from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed The Illuminati’s Stars Align CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”
And for a different twist, we showcased local musicians trying their hands at live comedy, as we aired highlights from the January 14 charity roast of the show’s host, which took place at Aldo’s in Altoona to benefit Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Blair County. We heard area musicians get their digs in on yours truly and each other; participants included Rich McGarvey and Jason Mittan (Aldo’s), all of Half Tempted (Ron Dalansky, Joe George, Steve Oswalt, Kevin Siegel), Bob Watters (The Hurricanes), Chris Vipond (Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band), Adam D, Cheeze (Railroad City Murder Machines), Kent Tonkin (Lies, Inc.), my Rocky 104.9 cohort Jay Randyll, and some return fire from yours truly. What a fun, crazy night!

We know what we’re up against next Sunday night. But if the Super Bowl match-up of the New England Patriots and New York Giants doesn’t intrigue you, listen to the “Homegrown Rocker” instead as we celebrate “The Ladies of Local Music!” We’ll hear from local and regional ladies who sing, play guitars, drums, basses, keys and more! We’ll update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and keeping with this week’s theme, review Michi’s Where Your Heart Is CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” The women of the area music scene take the spotlight on the “Ladies of Local Music Special” edition of the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!
