HOMEGROWN ROCKER 1/15/12 (CAESER PINK & THE IMPERIAL ORG

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 15 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

We introduced our first musical guests of New Year 2012, Caeser Pink and Heather Milburn of Caeser Pink & the Imperial Orgy (www.theimperialorgy.com). Caeser and Heather enlightened us on the music and multimedia live stage spectacle that is the Imperial Orgy, as well as the collective’s nonprofit Arete Living Arts Foundation. Caeser talked about the group’s State College beginnings, their move to their current home base of New York City, and the adventures, accomplishments and controversies that their no-holds-barred brand of free-form musical expression has encountered along the way. We also heard tracks from Caeser Pink & the Imperial Orgy’s new CD, Four Legs Good, Two Legs Baaad!; and armed with acoustic guitar and violin respectively, Caeser and Heather performed a couple of songs live for us as well. And since Caeser was our guest, we broke out a song from his past, digging out a 1984 track from his Lewistown-based punk/reggae band Friction for this week’s “Local Music Flashback.” Along the way, we debuted new tracks from Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band and Flux Capacitor, updated “Local Music News,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song by Johnstown native-turned-California artist Liz Lux, and reviewed Bushmaster’s Revolution Rhapsody CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” A busy, action-packed show!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Pink Parking Ticket”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Icy You”
CAESER PINK & THE IMPERIAL ORGY – “In Praise of Shadows (We Become Naked)”
FLUX CAPACITOR – “Save Yourself”
CAESER PINK & THE IMPERIAL ORGY – “Dinosaurs”
LIZ LUX – “The Desert” (Across State Lines)
CAESER PINK & THE IMPERIAL ORGY – “Brave New Hymn” (performed live on the air)
TED McCLOSKEY – “Bridget Friday”

HOUR TWO:

NATE MYERS & THE ACES – “Jager & Waffles”
CAESER PINK & THE IMPERIAL ORGY – “So It Is”
BUSHMASTER – “Ball ‘N’ Jack”
CAESER PINK & THE IMPERIAL ORGY – “Happy Endings” (performed live on the air)
FRICTION – “Dancing Now” (1984, Local Music Flashback)
CAESER PINK & THE IMPERIAL ORGY – “The Amazing Tenacity of Job & His Brethren”

On our next program, we’ll again take the opportunity to get caught up on new local and regional music recordings that have arrived in the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes in recent weeks, so the emphasis will be on new music with lots of new songs making their debut on the program. We’ll also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review Whiskey River Panhandlers’ Songs from Grandma’s Radio CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Cleaning out the mailboxes results in maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

FEB. 5 – LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC SPECIAL
FEB. 12 – BACKYARD KINGS
FEB. 26 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE RECAP SPECIAL
MAR. 4 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE GUEST (TBA)

In Local Music News…

The New Year means a new singer for regional party rockers Bad Daze. Rob Carolus has parted ways with the band, and former Zoo/Lifesick singer Tim Howsare replaces him.

Some former members of Mindspine have formed a new band. Sylex made their debut last weekend at The Arena in State College. The new band features Mindspine’s sibling duo of singer Jason and keyboardist David Eyer, plus former Mindspine guitarist Spencer Puzak. Brian Price plays rhythm guitar, Steve Houts bass and Toby Quick drums.

Rain Must Fall has found their new drummer and is set to release their first full-length album. The group is releasing the album, Wednesday Starts the Weekend, this month on iTunes.

Several area bands and musicians are coming together to help out a cancer patient. The “Kick the Cancer Benefit” will happen at Pellegrine’s in Altoona on Sunday afternoon, January 29, to raise money to help out cancer patient Jackie Cone. Groups so far lined up to donate their talents that afternoon include Lies, Inc., The Jam, Big Mac N’the Fries, Hot Damn, Johnny Danger, The Hawks and Rich Dasch & Harmonica Dave.

And the “Homegrown Rocker” extends speedy get well wishes to area musician Tim Homerski, who is recovering from a health issue.
