I love The first Roth era of Van Halen. I was just hoping it would be better I guess. They certainly tried too hard, and so far its a a fail I think.
The mix kinda sucks too. I hope the rest of it is better.
It's not horrible or anything...just doesn't have anything that "grabs" me. Parts kind of sound like Extreme, which obviously is ironic considering Van Halen III.

Wow, a huge band puts out a new album after 25 years and it is proclaimed as "not so good" by the Rockpage community? Talk about creative lyrics, I think I have heard this one before! (Just kidding!)
I just hope they put on a good show on March 30th when I take my kids to see them... As far as the album, I can't imagine what would have been satisfactory after 25 years! And yes I am a Hagar fan but there was something about those first Van Halen albums...
Heres to you guys (van halen), living the dream!
May you have lots of fun!

The ONLY thing about this song that sounds good to me...is the guitar solo. The rest of it sucks ass to me. The song, the mix, the riffs, the drum parts, and dave's vox get pretty sad at one point. Its really doesnt even have the famous DLR sparkle that his vox used to have. Its not just because he's gotten older either.
I understand that im just a nobody and im talking about professionals. I just really had high hopes and am disappointed.
It is the first song released from the CD, Kieth. Although I like Hagar better, I am waiting till I hear the whole cd to make an opinion about whether it sucks or not.
well, Roth's "singing" is even worse than it was...and it was already pretty bad to begin with. This song is just so...I guess the best word is insubstantial. Considering that Eddie pretty much revolutionized the hard rock/metal guitar world in the 80's, its a real step backward from where it could have been (of course, its still better than the Gary Cherone years).
hey, I thought I was the only one! I actually really like Sammy Hagar's voice and the fact that the music got very melodic (although kind of pussified) when he was in the band.

Nope, me 3. I am a bigger Montrose fan than Van Halen, though.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
you people kill me!!! it might not be the best they have done , and i like them roth on vocals, and I will say he has lost his voice but its not that bad and remember one thing people. you sit here and criticize everybody and every thing so i say when you sell millions of cds and and make millions then you have the right to say something!!!!!! ( just saying)

Make that 5. I've always been a fan of both eras, but prefer hearing Sammy over Dave. As Myst said, although a bit more vaginal friendly, I like the melodic pieces they wrote with Haggar in the band. Plus let's be honest David Lee Roth is a bit of an ass clown!!

Frankly, I hate it when people say things like this. You don't have to be a mechanic to know a lemon when you see one. And you don't need millions of album sales under your belt to make a sound judgement on someone else's music. Shitty music gets put out all the time and people buy it. Just because an album goes gold doesn't mean it's great stuff. Look at the shit Britney Spears cranks out. Look at all the criticism Metallica's recent music has drawn from fans. Saying that you should keep your mouth shut unless you've sold millions of CDs doesn't make any sense. Are you honestly telling me that you have never once heard music by a fairly popular artist and said it was bad? I highly doubt it.
Who do you think BUYS those millions of CDs? Average people, that's who. Their opinions count. And I'll say whatever the fuck I want and don't give a crispy fried shit who doesn't like it.
I listened to the new Van Halen and wasn't that impressed. It's not bad, but not particularly good, either. I wouldn't say they've totally lost it as a band. They might crank out something good in future if they keep at it. But the new stuff didn't do much for me.

Good to see that I'm not the only one who digs Sammy. Balance is one of my favoriate VH albums.

Yeah and brokeNCYDE are probably more famous than anyone on this board (look them up if you want to hear the worst music ever recorded). I have trouble buying that they're more musically credible than some local musicians just because they're more famous.
If talent determined record sales, the Top 40 chart would look a lot different.

I heard "Tattoo" for the first times yesterday and today. It's all right. It doesn't make anybody forget Van Halen's classic stuff with Dave, but it has a decent hook. Dave's voice sounds a little grainier, but that is to be expected with age. I thought it sounded a little better the second time I heard it. It does have some of that early Van Halen sound, although perhaps a little slower and bluesier. I'll be interested to hear what the rest of the album sounds like.
I've always slightly favored the Sammy era over Dave, but think both eras of Van Halen produced their fair shares of great tunes. The first two albums with both singers will always be high watermarks of Van Halen's career for me.

So unless we've been an elected official, we can't criticize a politician?? Yep, makes perfect sense.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
I do like the fact Eddie got away from the massive effects and studio album thing he was into. It is nice just to hear a straight guitar riff. Dave has more moves than any other lead vocalist out there.
Other than the lyrics the song grows on ya a bit.... just a bit..
If Freedom is not free then I will use my credit card.
I love Sammy Hagar and I love DLR. I can hardly wait to go see the show in Pittsburgh and prior to that I can hardly wait to hear the new album.. I fucking Love Rock N Roll!
Can't really see any bad from this, feels like a "Win/Win" to me!
