Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the December 4 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
Thanks to our guests this week, Jason Straw and Greg Hatch of Johnstown metal rock specialists The Embalmed (www.theembalmed.com). In Local Music News…
Half Tempted has a new drummer. Former NailDriver and Scream drummer Kevin Siegel has taken over behind the kit for the popular Altoona area classic rockers, replacing Steve Bidoli. Kevin’s first show with Half Tempted took place late last month.
Pittsburgh orchestral rockers Ben Hardt and his Symphony have changed their name. Citing misconceptions over the name and increasing reluctance to have his name overshadow a group now with a large number of musicians involved, Ben Hardt announced that the group has changed its handle to the New Victorians. Hardt said he is releasing the first of three New Victorians albums on the group’s new website; the remaining two new albums will be released later as part of a sequence. A preview of the group’s new songs can be found on the new Victorians’ Facebook page.
A number of State College area bands and musicians are pooling their talents to celebrate the music of Neil Young to help out Easter Seals and State College’s historic State Theatre. “Heart of Gold: An Evening of the Music of Neil Young” will take place on Saturday, January 28 at the State Theatre starting at 7 p.m. The show will feature the music of Neil Young performed by such names as Pure Cane Sugar, the Screaming Ducks, Tyne & the Fastlyne, Ted McCloskey and the Hi-Fi’s, The Rounders, Miss Melanie and the Valley Rats, Brian Lubrecht, Pat McGinnis, Jason McIntyre & Junior Tutwiler, Tim Whitehill, Erin Condo and Tommy Wareham. For ticket information, check out the State Theatre’s website, www.thestatetheatre.org.
