Wanting to sell gear- having difficulty deciding...

Post by Craven Sound »

I don't want to get into specifics because this isn't a "for sale" ad, I'm just trying to get some advice. I have several sets of gear, all of which I'm attached to in a certain way but could use some extra cash with the holiday approaching. My investment in each is minimal, so whichever I choose will not lose me any money.

Set A- It's the prettiest set, near mint condition. It lives in storage bags and doesn't usually see daylight. It'll probably never be thrown in a car and jammed on.

Set B- It's vintage, worth something to a collector, but around here, not so much. The hassle of shipping it makes me cringe.

Set C- Probably the least amount I have invested in any set ever, and it's in really nice condition, sort of vintage, still playable.

Set C.5- Matches set C, uses one of C's parts when on its own.

I definitely want to keep something on hand, my son has an interest in music and he will be using one of these some day. WWRPD?

I'm a hoarder. I still have a kit I bought in 1970. it came in handy when my son played it (gigged it) years later. I stopped playing for over 20 years and my son has his own kit. That 1970 Ludwig is now at the practice facility and still / again serves a purpose. Glad I didn't sell it.

Bought a Mid level Yamaha kit to gig about seven or so years ago. Sometimes I gig it but it usually stays at home for personal practice.

The last (third) kit is for gigging. If I had to tear it down and set up constantly for band practice, home practice and gigs it would be a pain.

Happy I didn't sell things off...

I'd unload set A. If you're not playing them, they deserve to be sold to someone who will appreciate, keep, and play them. Drums and meant to be played, plain and simple. Do NOT sell them to someone who will just turn around and EBay them. Sell them to someone who is passionate about drumming and will give them a good home.

However, I do have 3 snares and counting...LOL.

I go through alot of stuff. But I use everything that I do keep. If I don't use it, it's gone. And if your going to get rid of it, put it on ebay. You'll get the most money out of it there, even after the outrageous fee's. AND whoever is willing to pay top dollar is sure to use, and or enjoy it. It's a pain in the ass packing stuff up, but it's worth it in the end.

Listed Set B on eBay and ended up meeting the guy a couple hours away. He paid cash on delivery so I didn't have to hassle with Paypal and packing the kit into boxes for shipment. I got near what I was quoted form Baltimore Drum Shop on value. Still have the other sets too.
