HOMEGROWN ROCKER 11/13/11 (CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 13 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guest, Chuck Mason, the singer, guitarist and namesake for State College blues-rock power trio Chuck Mason & Blue Reality (www.bluerealitymusic.net). Chuck discussed his own career and his current band, and we checked out songs from Chuck Mason & Blue Reality’s debut CD, You Know It’s Time; three lucky listeners called in to win their own copies! Along the way, we debuted new tracks from The Sunflower Spectacle and Billy Stoppe. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1996 song by Harrisburg’s Sole Grind from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed The Southside Strays’ Out All Night CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE GOOD SEEDS – “She’s Half a Pill”
JIMMY ADLER – “Horseshoe Curve”
CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY – “You Know It’s Time”
THE SUNFLOWER SPECTACLE – “Carnival”
CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY – “Can You Tell Me”
BILLY STOPPE – “Complicated”
CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY – “Trouble I Will Come to You”

HOUR TWO:

ALLEGORY – “Difficult to Forget”
RON GALLUCCI – “Something About You”
CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY – “Livin’ Hard Ain’t Easy”
SOUTHSIDE STRAYS – “Every Hair on My Head”
CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY – “Mean, Mean World”
SOLE GRIND – “Goodbye” (1996, Local Music Flashback)
CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY – “Politico”

On our next show, our guests will be western PA rockers Undercover (formerly Justin Hale). We’ll meet the band members and learn their story, hear recorded tracks from them, and they’ll bring acoustic guitars and play a song or two live for us as well! We’ll also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band’s Tupelo Tree CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Undercover visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 13 – CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY
NOV. 20 – UNDERCOVER (formerly JUSTIN HALE)
NOV. 27 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS SUNDAY NIGHT GAME)

In Local Music News…

Singer Jill Maurer has parted ways with Altoona-based experimental rockers Black Sun. Aislinn Feathers filled in on lead singing duties during Black Sun’s performance this past Saturday night at 30 Something in Altoona.

Two benefit concert events will take place on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 23. First, Pittsburgh’s Billy Price Band returns to headline this year’s annual Night of Rock, Rhythm & Blues benefit concert at Ace’s Lounge in Johnstown. Proceeds from the concert will again benefit the Johnstown Free Medical Clinic. The festivities will begin at 8 p.m.

And the fifth annual Hank Lasky Memorial Benefit will take place on Thanksgiving Eve at the Boswell American Legion in Boswell, and raise money for the North Star Parent-Teacher Association and the Boswell Main Street Program. The show is organized by musician Jeff Perigo in remembrance of his friend, Hank Lasky, who died in a 2007 car crash in North Carolina. This year’s show will feature performances by Jeff Perigo and Friends, Moldies and Monsters, The Dylanistas and The Shawn Green Band. Donation will be $10 at the door.

And the guitarist for Somerset-based rockers the Dirty Dogz has been recording songs toward a solo project. Billy Stoppe wrote, performed and recorded twelve songs.
