Music trivia. Name this song.

Post by f.sciarrillo »

I am thinking of a song. This song came out in the 70's. It was the only hit this band had. All the other ones released by this band flopped. It peaked at number 1 on the hot 100 charts, and won a couple of grammies. In 2010 AOL Radio listed it as one of the top 100 worst songs ever written. The band also had a tv show, it flopped.

So, can you name this song?

For extra credit:

1. Name the band.
2. Name the tv show.

Any takers? I will give a couple of hint.

It peaked number 1 in 1976, and was featured on the tv show glee.

Bay City Rollers "Saturday Night".

I used to watch their TV show cause their drummer (Derek?) was pretty cool and they would give him a small solo each week.

One of the very few boy-bands to play their own instruments. I still dig "Money Honey," which I think was the B-side of "Saturday Night." Very glammy, it could have been a T. Rex song.

No, kevin, it wasn't the Bay City Rollers. They actually had a couple hit records. Two albums that I know went to number one. That was a great guess though. This band I am thinking only had one hit song.

I never knew the Bay City Rollers had a tv show. That is pretty cool. I always liked them.

I will give another hint here: It was remade for Will Ferrell, Aka Ron Burgandy (The Ancor Man). And in 2010 is was also names as one of the sexiest songs of all time.

Whoever gets this will be the ultimate music trivia buff.

My answer is Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry but I do not recall them having a TV show.

Oh, I remember that show now! It was horrible!! I liked the song at the time because of the vocal harmonies, but now it just annoys me. It was considered racy at the time, and the song title entered the English lexicon as another way of saying "nooner," so, that's kinda cool. I'd like to do something that has that kind of impact.

I believe that John Denver produced that song or had something to do with that band. I think there was a lot of drama amongst the members which also added to their demise.

That is a new one to me, Autumnsky. I tried to find info on that part of it, but couldn't find anything.

Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert of The Starland Vocal Band co-wrote the hit song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" with John Denver. Denver subsequently signed them to his label Windsong Records
