Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the September 11 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
Thanks to our guest this week via phone, Jeremy Edge, the guitarist of Imagen Records recording group Candlelight Red (www.candlelightred.com). Business has picked up dramatically for Candlelight Red over the past year and a half, as they became one of 22 bands nationally to win an opening slot with KISS courtesy of an online contest sponsored by Guitar Center, and subsequently were selected as the grand prize winners of that contest by none other than Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS! They then signed a recording deal with Washington, DC-based indie label Imagen Records, and their debut disc with Imagen, The Wreckage, is set for release on September 23! And more recently, the group has opened tour dates for Egypt Central and Saving Abel! Jeremy shared his thoughts on all of these developments, his anticipation as the CD hits the streets, and other insights and Candlelight Red happenings. Along the way, we debuted new songs from The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns and Crazed Outlook. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1997 song by Jeremy’s former band, Backstreet Law, from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Revenge Memorial’s Democracy In Crisis CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

In Local Music News…
Zupe & Nichols are receiving more accolades stemming from their 2007 CD Speechless. The leadoff track from that disc, "Step On It," has been nominated for Best Instrumental Composition at this year's Hollywood Music in Media Awards. The awards show will be held at The Highlands and Kodak Theater in Hollywood on November 17th, with live broadcasts on DirectTV and the internet. Zupe and Dave Nichols will be guests on the “Homegrown Rocker” to talk about their recent successes on October 23.
The Embalmed is in the final mixing process for their forthcoming new CD. The new disc, called Make the Children Listen, contains ten new Embalmed tracks, and is described as presenting a darker sound reminiscent of some of the group’s earlier work. The new Embalmed disc will be released soon.
Roxbury Park in Johnstown will host a benefit next Sunday afternoon and evening, September 18. “Wang Dang Doodle” will feature live music and a car cruise, while raising money for Dylan’s Heart Fund and the Roxbury Bandshell Preservation Alliance. Food and refreshments will be available.
And Ace’s Lounge in Johnstown will host a benefit concert at the end of this month to raise money toward housing and feeding dogs and cats in need. The Habitat For Hounds benefit will happen on Friday night, September 30, starting at 7 p.m. The bands Blue Collar Fate, Octane and Shades Of June will donate their talents. Donation at the door is $10, with proceeds going to Habitat For Hounds, a Johnstown-based nonprofit organization that provides dog houses, shelters, bedding materials, food and bowls to dogs and cats.
