I just found a source for the discontinued Celestion G12 Century 80watt, 16 OHM, 102db@1W/1M efficient neodymium magnet speakers. These are not to be confused with the current model G12 Century Vintage that sound much like crisper Vintage 30s.
These are OEMs and don't say Celestion on them. The factory ones that are still in stock are going for well over $200 apiece. I can get the OEMs for around $75 or less in quantity.
These weigh less than 5lbs. each and put out more volume per watt than the other Celestion guitar speakers. They'll make a 2x12 cab sound as loud as a 4x12 cab. They have an extremely tight bottom and unbelieveable picking response that is inherent to neo speakers.
The sound of these is pretty much vanilla--perfect for people using digital modelers. I tested a lot of guitar speakers and this is the one I like best for modeling processors. Let your processor do the coloring with no flubbiness in the bass!
As far as tube amps go...I think they kick ass for tube amps, but they don't sound like anything else, so if you want a certain signature sound, the only one you'll get with these is your own.
I have a 2x12 custom Bassman style cab loaded with these and it sounds as full as a 4x12, but I can pick it up with my pinky finger. If you are serious and want a demo let me know.
If anybody is interested in going in on them, let me know.
Anybody want to get in on a Celestion speaker buy out CHEAP!
