Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 26 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, Jerry Carnicella and Bob Helbig, representing White Shadow (www.ababyboomerslookback.com. We talked about White Shadow, who has been making music on area stages nonstop since 1974! We heard music from Jerry’s newly-released music autobiography CD, Versatility. We also discussed the Patton Park Music Fest, which takes place next Sunday, July 3 at Patton Park. The Fest is a fundraiser for Patton Park and the Patton Library. Along the way, we debuted a new song from HotWing Jones, dug a 1980 live performance track by Fantasy Airlift from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Mama Corn’s self-titled debut CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

In Local Music News…

The area music scene was saddened this past week with the passing of Don Trullender last Sunday, June 19, after a lengthy illness at age 75. Don was one of the founding members of popular area oldies group The Fabulous Flashbacks, where he sang, played rhythm guitar and saxophone for 23 years. Although he officially retired as a full-time member of the Flashbacks last year, Don still sang and performed, with his last appearance happening two weeks before his passing.

An effort has begun toward creating a special tribute CD for Patrick Halloran, the singer for former Pittsburgh Celtic rock band Ceann. Patrick died in a February automobile accident in Vermont. His brother, Brian, has launched an online fundraising campaign to make a tribute album to Patrick. Brian and several prominent Irish/Celtic bands have agreed to record some of Patrick's songs which will make up the album. So far, the groups Scythian, Icewagon Flu, The Havers, The Town Pants, Homeland, Enter The Haggis & Saul Zonana are contributing songs, with more acts expected to join soon.

Rising area band favorites The Downfall are no more. The group suddenly disbanded earlier this month, and have gone their separate ways.

The Good Seeds have announced a release date and party for their debut CD, Buy Me A Kite. The group will issue the CD on Thursday, July 14 with a special CD release party at Al’s Tavern in Altoona.
