This is NOT a rinky dink operation. This is a full fledged fitness facility! Their equipment looks first class!

10 bucks per month!
ps that's the pre-grand opening price.
Sweat club and a church? A huge rock club, like Jaxx would have been much better. But would a big music club make it in Altoona? Would you be able to bring in bands like say Government Mule or Zakk and Black Label into an Altoona venue? Would enough people turn out?faster pussycat wrote:Update:
The church sold 20,000 sq ft to the franchisee. Planet Fitness will be in one half the church in the other.

It would never work, Joe, since nobody with enough money gives a crap about live music in Altoona. We're just on our own, while the money folks run their stupid little "safe band" festivals downtown and stuff. I always thought that the building that now has that new sports bar (Players?) across from Hooters would have made a killer live music spot. Very industrial looking.undercoverjoe wrote:Sweat club and a church? A huge rock club, like Jaxx would have been much better. But would a big music club make it in Altoona? Dood...
Metal has a relatively small following. You are not going to get the majority of your 20+ somethings to show. They are listening to POP and rap. Like that "i'm going solo solo solo" song and whatever the letest cookie cutter black-eyed pea tune. That's the stuff they have on their ipods.undercoverjoe wrote:Kev, if the powers that be in Altoona had a metal night in downtown Altoona, what would the turnout be? Would the metal fans turn out at 6 or 7 pm downtown?
What's left..40-50 yrs olds? Not too many metal heads there, there all into Journey and the Eagles

That leaves basically...noone to show up.

ps I love METAL I'd show!
i'm 37
It would be a cool idea to have a place around here where some big name bands would come to play , but basically, I think the majority of people in this area wouldn't be interested.
#1-They'd bitch about the $10.00 fee
#2-It would be too much of an effort to take a shower and get out of the house for something different.
#3-The music might be too loud-oooooooo!
#4-"We don't like that kind of music"!
BLah, blah blah, blah blah!!!
Oh, by the way, I'm past the 40-50 age group, and I can't stand Foreigner and The Eagles!!! Borrrrrrrring!!!

I love the Eagles, Journey and Foreigner. Journey With Steve Perry that is.
I know what you are all saying about a place that will get big name acts. I would love to see something like that around here. The Jaffa does it some times. Williamsport Arts Center does it all the time, and they get big crowds every time. I seriously think something like that would work around here, if someone would try it.

Music Rocks!
The State Theatre in State College, though a small venue, has had some pretty big named acts!---Johnny Winter, Derek Trucks, Leon Russell, Robin Trower, just to name a few. July 3rd, Roseanne Cash is going to be performing there. I think the main thing about having these kind of performers is finding the sponser to pay for them, and always being able to sell enough tickets to make it worth while! Any one remember when Gregg Allman played at Ciscos in Altoona?

@ autumnsky, yes I saw Gregg Allman at Ciscos...also I agree with your Jouney assessment, what a snooze. Them and a lot of other crap I'm SUPPOSED to like at my age, haha. We seem to have a lot of opinions in common...do I know you by chance?
@ undercover, I think they stopped those shows because we did not behave. Not vandalism but some smoking (oh my)

For the record I love Journey. Even with their new lead singer.
I don't understand that someone can't see the talent there with a successful band like Journey or Foreigner (insert any great classic rock band) . Why do you appreciate just one genre of music, can't you appreciate real talent when you see thru many levels and genres? can't you love two people at same time . LOL
BTW, I can't get this out of my head

I most certainly DO like more one genre of music, nor do I discount talent within genres I do not like so much. You don't know anything about me. You will never convince me to like Journey's music. Aren't there artists whose music you dislike? If not, thats kinda weird. BTW, sorry for highjacking your thread about Planet Fitness, didn't mean to do that.

I feel the new lead singer is trying to sound too much like Steve Perry. I don't like that. Plus, Steve Perry has one of the greatest voices in rock history. That can't be matched.faster pussycat wrote:For the record I love Journey. Even with their new lead singer.

Notice I said one of the greatest, and not the greatest.
Music Rocks!
I think bands like Foreinger and Journey were pretty much destroyed by radio "overplay"---their same top forty songs over and over and over! You know, like what happened to Stairway to Heaven and Freebird. Also, they came out in an era where there really wasn't any "cause" for good music, unlike the Vietnam war years with all of the protesting and awesome music festivals. I personally am not stuck in one or another generation of music, I listen to what strikes my mood at the moment.
I think if you'd check my 6 disk CD player right now you'd find George Harrison's "Concert For Bangladesh",The Stones'"Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out",Nilsson's "Schmilsson",Quicksilver Messenger Service's "Best Of".Dickey Betts & Great Southern's "Rockpalast", oh yeah, and Pink's "Funhouse"!
Am I a skitzoid??? Don't answer that!
I apologize for getting off track, also!

I have a different take he's not "trying" to sound like SP, he justs sounds like him.f.sciarrillo wrote:I feel the new lead singer is trying to sound too much like Steve Perry. I don't like that. And a good thing for Journey he does!
