Mandolin Pickups, advice?

Post by robinhood »

Hello again, Due to the fact that playing out with my mandolin is quite difficult when I can't be heard becuase I'm 'unplugged' does anyone out there, especially the bluegrass folks out there have any advice for pickups? I found one on ebay and it was like 3 dollars, I'm not looking to spend a fortune, just want something that will work, and not fry my amp. Another question is, would playing a mandolin through a bass amp work? Just curious.

Gotcha covered again. K&K Big Shot. Google it, they go around $30 and worth 5 times that for the sound they deliver, and VERY easy to install: Get the one with a 1/4" jack already attached on the other end of the cable. The pickup itself can be self-adhered, it's got stickum on one side, but don't do that. Leave the paper on it, and simply put the pickup itself into the bridge, between the piece of wood that adjusts up and down for string height, and the piece that makes the base of the bridge. Now just wedge a guitar pick in there to hold it in. That's it. By far, the best pickup I ever used... I played it with rock bands, and never had a bit of feedback, ever. No preamp, either, the mixing board supplies all the gain you need. And you can take it off that easily, too, by unwedging the pick, and pulling it out. And it's one of the cheapest pickups available, even though it sounds great. A rare win-win.
We've met, I'd be glad to show you how to install it if you get one. The head of the company showed me!
