HOMEGROWN ROCKER 5/15/11 (2ND STREET)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 15 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

When Northern Cambria-based acoustic duo 2nd Street won the second annual “Battle Of The Acoustics” earlier this month at Northern Cambria’s City Hotel and punched their ticket to be guests on this week’s edition of the “Homegrown Rocker,” we decided to turn the show into a celebration of musical talent in northern Cambria County. As 2nd Street siblings Jesse and Jared Carnevali told us about their duo, shared thoughts on winning “Battle of the Acoustics,” and performed six songs live on the air for us; we also spotlighted numerous other northern Cambria County-based talent, including John Charney (Wine Of Nails), Gerry Stanek, Jerry’s Fault (featuring Jesse’s and Jared’s dad, Jerry Carnevali), Joe Konior, Alicia Hritsko and Big Soul, O’liver Squash (Jim Zemlock) and Hi-Tyde. We also commemorated popular northern Cambria County musician John Baker by breaking out a live track from John and Joe Konior (Smokin’ J’s) for a “Local Music Flashback.” Besides the new Jerry’s Fault number, we also debuted a new tune from Zelazowa. In addition, we updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed Mouths Of Babes’ self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

WINE OF NAILS – “Manhattan South”
GERRY STANEK – “Apple of My Eye”
2ND STREET – “More Than Words” (performed live on the air)
JERRY’S FAULT – “Ended”
2ND STREET – “Drift Away” (performed live on the air)
JOE KONIOR, ALICIA HRITSKO & BIG SOUL – “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”
2ND STREET – “She Will Be Loved” (performed live on the air)
ZELAZOWA – “Junkie Got Soul”

HOUR TWO:

O’LIVER SQUASH – “Up Above Down Below”
CURBSIDE PROPHETS – “Homegrown Rocker Freestyle” (performed live on the air 10/10/10)
2ND STREET – “Everything You Want” (performed live on the air)
MOUTHS OF BABES – “Bound”
2ND STREET – “I’m Yours” (performed live on the air)
SMOKIN’ J’S – “Psycho Killer” (performed live 1/23/00 at Electric Avenue, Houtzdale) (Local Music Flashback)
2ND STREET – “All I Have to Do Is Dream” (performed live on the air)
HI-TYDE – “One Who Cares”

Since the guest arrangement for our next program fell through due to logistical reasons (we’ll reschedule Gypsy Caravan’s appearance for later this year), we’re turning the program into another opportunity to get caught up on new local and regional recordings that have arrived in the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes in recent weeks. We’ll debut plenty of new songs and get you caught up on new artists arriving on the region’s music scene. We’ll also update “Local Music News,” raid the local music archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review another local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” We clean out the mailboxes once again on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 29 – MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL
JUNE 5 – THE WHATLEYS
JUNE 12 – MINDSPINE
JUNE 19 – FATHER’S DAY SPECIAL
JULY 3 – VISION TO NONE
JULY 10 – ZELAZOWA
JULY 17 – MONSTER TRACK SUPERGROUP
JULY 24 – STEVE McCULLEY MEMORIAL SHOW PREVIEW
