GOOD LUCK FINDING PEOPLE?!

Post by Banned »

Swingmaster wrote:Any luck finding people to play with on this thing? I have little to none.
Just checking if this thing works for anyone else or not. I dont think it does.

I've been a member here since 2006 and I can tell you from experience that any musician that is worth his/her salt is already in a band. Best thing I can tell anyone posting here is, leave your options open and don't just rely on RP to do your leg work. Network some and put ad's else where... Just asking around a little helps a great deal. We finally (after three loooong weeks) got a great group of guy's together for our band. Actually two members of the band aren't even members here, that I know of. If they are, I don't know what they call themselves on ROCKPAGE.
Our bassist comes from Clearfield and the guitar player comes from Pittsburgh. Now, I've heard people say, "How far from "wherever" are you guy?" or "That's to far to drive?" Those statements there just tell me that those type of people are "hobbyist" and/or just "weekend warriors." Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of great musicians that only play on weekends but I also know a lot of them that make their band a regular job.
In conclusion, guess all I'm really trying to say is don't get down on yourself or the site because you can't find people to jam or start a band with. If you really want to play just get out there and play. Your band will find you along the way. It may work out or it may not, but it's entirely up to the individual(s) to push forward. In my "Rock Soldier" experience there is No Retreat, No Surrender!

Maybe it's you, Swingmaster.
I'm just sayin'.
Maybe you lack experience, or you have a reputation for being difficult, or maybe (gasp) you're not very good. Of course, it could actually be that we are such a tight-knit community that we know one another personally, and fill our vacancies quickly because we have gigs that need played.
This site gets thousands of hits, coming up on a decade in it's current form, well-established and expertly administrated. Hundreds of connections have been made here, and while I don't utilize the connections as much (If it was Grasspage, I'd post more band stuff), I still visit everyday.
Many people here waited YEARS, through many lineup changes and dues-paying gigs, to find that perfect bandmate.
Nobody owes you a gig, those are earned.

It has to be RP's fault that you can't find band mates because your personality just doesn't warrant all the non- responses for your desperate attempt to find that instant pop star jam band. Swing on

It's not the website. It's the area. I've been trying to start/join a band for almost four years and only recently have I finally succeeded. I used to check RP, Craigslist, Bandmix, as well as asking musician friends of mine if they know of any openings. Skeezer is pretty much right; Most of the good musicians in the area are already playing with someone. There are exceptions, but they're pretty rare. You just have to keep trying.

I'm a hobbyist and not looking for another job- I already have too many. I do enjoy playing with other people, and why not look here where a lot of fine folks post their availability.

Coming from someone who's not very good (I can easily admit that) and doesn't have the equip to really kick it, if you're not succesful, either you're asking the wrong questions, you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, or you're just not taking the right angles. You've got the right brush, but the wrong color to paint the portrait of beautiful music. So, stick it out if you want, or move on. Really, there isn't much else in the options. But if you want it dude, keep digging for it

Come to Pellies tomorrow at 3 for the Blues Jam. Introduce yourself and meet some musicians there. You have been wanting to jam right? Here's your opportunity.

I can't speak for Skeezer, but I never said "everyone who's not in a band sucks." I said, most of the people in the area who are good players are already playing with someone.

How true!! I switched over to playing bass about 2 years ago to help out some friends of mine because I was bandless and they needed a bass player,so I decided to help them out,it was short lived but it ended up really paying off for me because I became the bass player for NailDriver a little over a year ago and I couldn't be happier.
