HOMEGROWN ROCKER 4/10/11 (EAST COAST TURNAROUND)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 10 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, Pittsburgh-based rock/country rebels East Coast Turnaround (www.eastcoastturnaround.com), for making the roadtrip in to be a part of the show! Thanks also to The Underground (www.theunderground.com) for furnishing the studio facility for this week’s interview! We met the members of East Coast Turnaround and learned their story, and heard songs from their debut EP, Season In Hell. The guys also brought instruments and played two songs live! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Gypsy Caravan, Ron Gallucci and Sterling Koch. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1995 song from local country-rockers Crossover for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Borrowed Time’s Gimme Some (Rock’n’Roll) CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE RUSTLANDERS – “Holdin’ Out”
JIMMY ADLER – “Horseshoe Curve”
EAST COAST TURNAROUND – “Only You”
GYPSY CARAVAN – “Move On”
EAST COAST TURNAROUND – “Just Like the Rolling Stones” (performed live on the air)
ALLEGORY – “Actress”
EAST COAST TURNAROUND – “Cadillac, Cadillac”
RON GALLUCCI – “Hollywood”

HOUR TWO:

STERLING KOCH – “Taylor’s Rock”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “Wacarnolds”
EAST COAST TURNAROUND – “Love, Life & Murder”
BORROWED TIME – “Love’s Got a Hold on You”
EAST COAST TURNAROUND – “51” (performed live on the air)
CROSSOVER – “Long Haired Country Boy” (1995, Local Music Flashback)
EAST COAST TURNAROUND – “Where’s My Sunshine”
THE UP DOWNS – “Dehydrated Hangover Blues” (performed live on the air 1/16/11)

With no guests scheduled for our next program, we’ll use the opportunity for a long-overdue cleansing of the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes, and debut lots of new songs from recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update “Local Music News,” raid the local music archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” review Matt Otis’ Life Love Death CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and step “Across State Lines” to discover a band or artist from beyond Pennsylvania! It’s maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

APRIL 24 – E.V.K.
MAY 1 – DAY OF ROCK PREVIEW
MAY 8 – CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND
MAY 15 – CITY HOTEL “BATTLE OF THE ACOUSTICS” WINNER
MAY 22 – GYPSY CARAVAN

In Local Music News…

Jill West and Blues Attack and solo performer Chris Yakopcic will represent western Pennsylvania at next year’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Both artists won their respective categories in Saturday night’s finals of the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania’s annual Blues Challenge. That event was held at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center in Pittsburgh’s Greentree section.

Altoona-based hard rockers I-Enemy have changed bass players, as Bill Rickard replaces Jim Stephanic.

And a benefit concert to help fund Patton’s park and library will take place during the July 4 weekend. The day-long music fest will happen on Saturday, July 3 at Patton Park, and will feature performances from White Shadow, the Beatlemaniacs, Andy Rhody. Rob & Scott, and more acts to be announced. Admission will be free except for pavilion seats, which will cost $3. Donations will be collected through the day.
