Going Wireless...
Going Wireless...
So I have been digging around for a wireless setup for my bass and have found a handful of options.... I am nervous though to stray away from Shure. I have looked at the Shure PGX 14 and think that is the route I should go. Does anyone have experience with different wireless systems good or bad? Other brands that may be ok to go with. The shure price point is around $380 new and that's about the max that I want to spend unless some of you have experience that shows I have to spend 800 to get something worth buying...

Go with the digital wireless-Line 6 makes it now. I have the older X2 version(who Line 6 took over) rackmount and it works great,no dropouts, crystal clear and is simple to set up and operate. I used it with my guitar and now I run my bass through it,no problems at all

Yep, digital is the way to go--especially for bass--better low end response.
I use this one from Brace Audio...no complaints except that you have to remember to unplug the guitar cable from the transmitter to shut off the battery:

You have to spend about a grand to get something comparable from Shure or AKG.

...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
As far as the Brace Audio... I haven't heard of that brand before... Have I been missing out or just not well known? Also, about what range do you get with it?

Seems like what I've found of reviews the Brace audio dwg 1000x is a pretty nice setup. only about 100' but really even places like pellies or YP and others that size i can't see going more than 100' from the stage..
I was looking a a sennheiser that was about $250 and gets about 300'... any thoughts on sennheiser?

I have used several wireless' over the years so hear's my 2 cents:
Shure ULXP/ULXS - Outstanding products no complaints
X/2 - Very nice product that works good and is easy to setup. Build quality is a bit on the cheezy side. Keep a spare transmitter cable handy
Sennheiser - Very well built but ate 9 volt batteries quickly
I researched these too death and always look for how low the Freq Response will go, Range and Battery Life
YMMV!

I would completely avoid ANYTHING using analog RF. Especially Shure PGX series.
I've not used the Line 6 stuff others have mentioned, but a digital connection is about the only way I know to keep the low end extension of a bass guitar.
The other issue with RF is companding. This is basically a compressor and an expander on the transmitter and reciever (respectively) that will squash the sound down and then re-expand it. This is done to fit it in the limited bandwith of the RF signal. The quality of that circuit will have a large impact on the quality of the sound.
IMO, wireless is just not worth the trouble for bass and guitar. I know it's nice not to be tethered but until you spend mega bucks, you will not achieve the same results as even a cheap instrument cable.

The thing I like about staying wired is that it's one less thing to fail. With wireless, you have to worry about batteries and interference (which could be dramatically different from one venue to the next), or signal loss, but even 'severely' damaged cables can be fixed in minutes with little or no parts. Unless you want to do backflips and pirouettes in your stage show, a wireless setup is unnecessary.
I do agree that it is one less item to fail ... though it seems this year has been a year of f'n up my jacks.... even with the wrap around the strap with the cable i still have seemed to have found ways to need new jacks.. ugh..
I'm going to try out my buddies wireless setup this weekend to get a feel for it and maybe grow more of an opinion.. maybe i just need to be more careful ... lol.
I do like the idea of being able to jump off the stage and run around in the bar while I play though... I'm not one to stay stationary.
