HOMEGROWN ROCKER 10/3/10 (ORIGINAL SIN)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 3 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, young Altoona-based hard rockers Original Sin. We met the band members and learned their story, plus heard recorded songs from them. Along the way, we debuted new songs from Synesthesia and E.V.K., and we introduced a song by Washington, DC’s Superbob as we ventured “Across State Lines.” We also updated “Local Music News,” reviewed Fourth River’s The Crow That Pecked You CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dug out a 1995 song by Twisted Fate for a “Local Music Flashback.” A busy show!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
(kāj) – “Rise Up”
ORIGINAL SIN – “Watch Them Burn”
SYNESTHESIA – “Lake of Fire”
ORIGINAL SIN – “S.A.D. (Shattered American Dream)”
THE TAKEN – “Parallel”
ORIGINAL SIN – “Broken Man”
E.V.K. – “The Angry Song”

HOUR TWO:

MINDSPINE – “Move”
BOB (SUPERBOB) – “On The Floor” (Across State Lines)
ORIGINAL SIN – “D-Minor”
FOURTH RIVER – “Cornerstone”
ORIGINAL SIN – “For Whom the Bell Tolls”
TWISTED FATE – “Reasons” (1995, Local Music Flashback)
ORIGINAL SIN – “Losing the Fight”

Our next show will mark the 2nd anniversary of our arrival on the airwaves of Rocky 104.9, and we will celebrate by resurrecting a popular former program special. For the “Acoustic Jam Special,” we will bring together several area acoustic musicians in the studio. We’ll start by spotlighting each performer individually, before letting them match wits musically and jam out on common songs during the latter portion of the show. Past “Acoustic Jam Special” editions have produced some of the most memorable highlights in this show’s history, including the legendary 8-minute Motorhead “Ace of Spades” jam from 2005! Confirmed guests for this special include members of Altoona bluegrassers Mama Corn and Rich Edmundson, and more guests could drop in as well! Along the way, we’ll update “Local Music News,” review another new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback!” Listen to hear what magic and craziness unfolds on the “Acoustic Jam Special” edition of the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Indiana rockers Solegion have landed three songs in the soon-to-be-released DVD by international daredevil motorcycle promotion Crusty Demons. Solegion’s songs “The Blame,” “Familiar Ghosts” and “My Monster” will be featured on the Crusty Demons 15 DVD, which will be issued later this month and will be available at motorcycle stores and CD/DVD retailers. Now based in Huntington Beach, California, Solegion recently parted ways with rhythm guitarist Adam Getty. The release date for the group’s forthcoming CD, Evoking Something Sacred, has been delayed due to album artwork issues; but Solegion hopes to release the disc themselves soon.

The date for this year’s annual Mya’s Miracle Autism Benefit concert has been announced. This year’s show will take place on Saturday evening, November 6, starting at 7 PM at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona. Donating their talents at this year’s benefit will be the bands R2B2 and The Front. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased in advance at Nardo’s Café, or at the door the night of the show.

Altoona-based heavy rockers Samara are back with a new line-up, after a year away from area stages. The group has added former Assault Method member Mike Houck on vocals and former Flame Sky guitarist Jason Feathers. Samara returns to the stage Oct. 23 at Aldo’s, as part of a bill also featuring A Fight With Sledgehammers, Dick Shack Posse, and a reunion of early ‘90s Altoona rockers Sludge.
