Band walks out on a cancer beneift

This weekend i took part in a cancer benefit in strongstown pa. I thought I had seen just about everyting in 15 plus years of bar bands. Then i saw what had to be the lowest thing Ive every seen. The headling band who will remain nameless walks out. Im not sure of the reason. I really just wanted the reaction of the rockpage community because I struggle with this. I'm I wrong for thinking this was wrong. If I am so be it but holy shit.

Generally yes, that would be a lame thing, but it's easy to judge without knowing the details. Perhaps the drummer's father was just in a car wreck.

i won't judge the band on it before i hear why they left. i mean if they knew it was a benefit, they should of known it wasn't paying if that was the issue. was it a low turn out? i would hate to have a bash session if there was some kind of an emergency, or a member was sick.

First of all Dude how ya been. In regards to the car wreck it didnt go down that way. They walked in bitched to lady running the thing and left. And really i dont want this to be a bash thing.

its one thing to walk out on a gig but when its a benifit now matter how large or how small, thats low. any benifit isn't about "you the band" or "the rockstar image". it's about raising money for a good cause. my thoughts are if say your gonna do a benifit and you walk out on it, well that sucks. i can see if there was an emergency but it doesn't sound like it. that sucks. Arron it doesn't matter to me who it is but now im worried cause i'm doing a benifit at magoo's at the begining of june i hope i don't have who ever it is booked. btw would you guys be able to pull off a set on june 5th????? pm me.

Aaron it's going well. I'm diggin' NC but can't wait to get back to PA.

The car wreck was more of just an example. I have to agree with my esteemed colleague, Flaw, on this one. I do investigations and fact finding in the day gig, and you may not be able to deduce the truth from first impressions.

I definitely come from the old school of if a show's booked, then absent hurricane, emergency surgery requiring amputation, or meteor hitting the Earth, you play the gig. I played a gig the night of my mother's funeral. And I've heard some lame excuses for bands backing out of shows. Anyone remember the band that pulled out of End of Summer Jam a few years ago because they were afraid that some condensation from rain drizzle would damage their equipment?

There could have been a valid reason to pull out of the gig or the band could have been acting like a bunch of primadonnas. I've seen both scenarios.

Sounds bad, There still could be details we don't know but I'd think for a cancer benefit you should really try to stick it out even if something didn't go as planned or agreed to. Its really hard to say though with the few details given. Maybe the lady deserved to be bitched at who knows ? It does sound like a crappy thing to do though.

i have to agree with the others...an emergency is one thing (and is a very real possibility), but walking out because they didn't want to play or something would be pretty pathetic.

it reminds me of a situation where a band wouldn't play a benefit gig because pat (flaw) messed up their name on the flier.

im not sure if it was the exact reason they wouldnt play, but i do remember that that made a big hype about it

Had no idea that went down earlier. We played later, but all i can say is,
the people that were there seemed apprciative that we gave our time.
our lead player couldn't make it, but we muddled thru anyway. Doesn't
matter how many people were there-- we feel good for being able to help
out, and we'll do it anytime for a good cause.

All I can say is we played and had a real good time, Everyone thanks us and we all felt good we could give our time for the Cancer Benfit. if you can give give your time next year and support these guys they really put on a great event.

I'm with Bassist_25. However, there are usually three sides to every story; your side, my side and the truth. Therefore I will not judge, as he didn't. I know benefits can be some of the most demanding gigs there are, but we all need to look past the local situation and keep our commitments to the big picture....
