What did the Rockpage Benefit benefit?

i heard that the Rockpage Benefit was a huge success, but what charity was benefitted?

i was just curious because i want to set up a benefit also. also, approx. how much money was raised?

Initially, the Rockpage Benefit was organized by Rockpage members to help Ron the webmaster with costs associated with moving the site to a new server. The benefit easily covered those costs, so we announced during the Benefit that the remaining proceeds - approximately $300 - went to a medical fund for former area musician John McKnight. John, the former drummer for the Hurricanes who relocated to Atlanta several years ago, underwent emergency surgery just before Thanksgiving and spent time in the hospital. Like many musicians, John was uninsured. John was to undergo a second operation and is out of commission for the next six months, which means he not only has medical expenses and no insurance to cover them, but also can't earn income behind the drum kit for the next six months either. So the $300 - while a small amount - was donated to help John out. The next benefit, April 24 at Peter C's, will also help out John McKnight.

In total, the Rockpage benefit brought $425 at the door. $300 went to the McKnight fund, and we also gave a little bit 'o cash to those who brought in equipment for everyone to use.

Not only was the benefit a success to money raised, it was a success to all the musicians who turned out and started networking with each other. It was just a great thing in general.

I didnt get any $$$ and I had the worst peice of equipment there (the bass rig)!!!

I did have a lot of fun at the benefit. I can honestly say that i had more fun watchin than i did playin. I never get to see most of the bands that played there being that im a 19 yr. old chump and i cant get into bars, so seeing bands like The Grimm just blew me away. It also gave me a bit of a wake-up call that i need to learn more styles, theory, scales, and whatnot. I hope to see the next one and the one after that, and the one...you get the point.

I have to echo everybody's sentiments; the Rockpage Benefit was truly an awesome night. I got to jam with people I only knew, previously, as a username; I talked in person with musicians whom I spoke with over the net; I got to see some old bandmates, and best of all, I got to pull a prank phone call on my band's guitarist. (don't ask

I was looking forward to checking out the benefit in April, but I have a show the night of the new date, so I won't be able to make it. Either way, I'm sure it will also be a kick ass night. I must say though, I was impressed with how personable all of the musicians were, that I met. I didn't see one iota of ego while I was there. Makes me happy to know that the human race isn't all egocentric, shelfish people, based on competition. I get cynical about those thing, ya'know.

sounds like it just benefited everyone's ego. haha

that's ok though, it's cool that the area musicians are coming together for stuff. i am planning a benefit for the summer, i just wanted to see what the Rockpage Benefit was like and about.
