I'm sorry I missed it! I 've previously refused to acknowedge this person's existence, and I stand by that, but wow!!
On a related note, the whole situation has forced a bit of soul-searching, and I realize I test positive for "Know-It-All Syndrome." I post alot, mostly because I'm easily provoked into conversation (those of you who know me are all going, "Tell us something we don't know, dude!" -- I talks a bit, you know), but also because my job allows me little slow periods when I can check out the board. I do try to ask as many questions as I can about things I don't know much about, to balance things. Anyhoo, if I get too big-headed, just shoot me down. See, when I started this little music-life, I was young and naive, and thought a musician literally had to know everything... all the instruments, songwriting, sound and lighting, booking, marketing, all that. I found out from playing with other people's bands that all that stuff is extremely important, but finding a place in the pocket and filling it is the most satisfying thing for me. Everything else is little more than necessary window dressing to sell the product. So if I come off like that other person, please call me on it. I take criticism much better than I take a compliment ( they weird me out sometimes).
Gotta love this board!------->JMS (blues cat still lookin' for a gig)
Quite a weekend...
You know when I came here one day and saw the first post "How well do you know your instrument" I thought it was going to be something completely different than it was. I thought people were gonna be talking about if they know how to adjust their own truss rods and set their own intonation. You know, stuff like knowing what kind of wood your instrument is made of and how it effects your sound. I had no idea that the post would turn into what it did. I've read your posts and I don't think you have the know it all syndrome at all bro. Please don't put yourself on the same level as "egosrule" (you know who). I wonder if his teachers beat him with a rubber hose and stuck him "in the box" when he was bad. ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You didn't miss anything, Songsmith, just a bunch of nonsense. We all get "know it all syndrome" sometimes, but most of us are also honest enough to admit our shortcomings, and accept those of others without prejudice. I think that's what makes the difference.
On a bright note:
JP notified me this morning that he received an email from a member at Berklee. He and his dorm-mates also think that the "unacknowlegeable one" was off of his rocker! Thank God.

... and then the wheel fell off.

When even one's "friends" admitt that one is Off His Coffee, then that is what I like to call....Justice. Perhaps we should send them a Sympathy card...?

I'll be the one left standing behind you, looking the other way as you glance back at what you've lost.

A friend of mine from high school went to Berklee. He studied hard and became quite learned in the ways of music. Yet to this day, he remains open to new ideas and more importantly, loves music. He is a practicing Christian, yet he remains non judgemental on styles of music and the content there of. I would imagine that most Berklee grads are more like my friend, Bill than recently departed posters to this forum.

I too, have be known to get pretty verbose while posting at RP. But I did have 3 years of formal typing experience, so it doesn't really take me that long to write out a post. I also allow myself to get easily provoked in certain situations like this. But it's not that I have any emotional investment in it. Metalrules didn't anger me; I just thought his posts were asinine crap. He did make a lot of good points about songcraft. His "I'm right, you're wrong" attitude is what drove people nuts. I still stand by my thought that he suffers from an inferiority complex and it's projected by his elitism.
But as I've mentioned many times on the board, I have an INTJ personality. That makes me one of the most analytical people you'll ever meet. My analytical tendencies would make Metalrules look like he's oblivous to the obvious. I could have argued against all of his little points, but they weren't even interesting enough to pull apart. Besides, he probaly would have started arguing semantics anyway. (such as when I referred to Metalrules as "He" in this post. He probaly would have went on about how I shouldn't say "He" when I'm not even sure of what gender he was) I'm glad I didn't sit and write prolix thesises on all of the errors in his post, because it would have just been a waste of time. But as I always say, we are giving him validation by talking about him. He fulfilled a psychological need by stirring up controversey. I'm sure he still comes back and reads our post. Even in the back of my mind, I have a crazy intuition that The Reason still lurks at this site.
And I doubt that he is an example of a Berklee student. I studied under a Berklee grad and he was one of the nicest and most open minded musicians I've ever met.

metalrules is most likely the dude who runs the grimes songwriting board.
awhile back, there was a link on rockpage saying "if anyone is interested in getting lyrics critiqued, check this out." or something like that.
well i went there and read the same bullshit that was spewed out on this site recently.
probably not enough people visit his site so he had to come on here.
i don't know the link but it came from this site .
