Its cool the Mike Portnoy is helping them out. Especially since he was their drummer's fave drummer.
I do think Avenged Sevenfold is a horrible band though. They are talented players, but I cant get into their music at all.
I will check out their new album though to hear what Portnoy does on it.

That should be interesting. Portnoy is one of the best drummers ever. Maybe him being on this album will make them better. Then it could also be like a great player performing with a bunch of armatures.

I really don't understand why people don't like these guys?What's not too like?Kickass tunes,TWO guitar players that can actually play,and a good singer.I know some people got poopie in their pampers when they ditched that super boring color by numbers metalcore thing they did on the first two records but hey that shit DID blow.I mean all metal bands shouldn't be as consistantly boring as Haterbreed.

I just dont like avenged sevenfold. Ive heard them. It doesnt sound good to my ears at all. Its not what I like. I like lots of bands that can play and have good songs...minus the chick haircuts & gimmicks. In no way does their gimmick interfere with how I feel about their music. I seriously just dont like it. Theres plenty of other bands who "arent boring like hatebreed" that kick wayyyyy more ass than avenge sevenfold. Again, Just my opinion.

This WILL be interesting. I was having a conversation with a couple guys I work with who said they'll hang it up, call it a day. The dudes at work rather like Avenged. Knowing what I know about bands and musicians, I told em that they may take time and find someone that "fits them", and they'll keep going. Any musician in their right (or even wrong) mind would keep going. Course, I never thought I'd hear anything remotely like Mike Portnoy being mentioned as their new drummer. I wonder what those guys at work are gonna say to that... Heh

I blame that 100% on the recording industry. You might be one amazing band, but if you dont fit the typical "rock star" look with the leather, spiked hair, and covered in tattoo's, your not evening getting looked at.

Anymore it's 10% talent and 90% image on the rock radio stations. Oh and I forgot.. you must having piercings everywhere... FU industry.

Thats called "SELLING OUT". Screw that. Any musician that does that is a moron. I try to stay away from bands that sellout. Just to clarify, getting popular doesnt equal selling out to me. Doing something you normally wouldnt do to make money or to be popular is what selling out is to me. I wanna listen to the guys who make music for the love of making music. Not the guys who need to use it to get chicks or something like that.
I dont know why someone would let others tell them how to dress...but if they do, its on them. Avenged are good musicians. Ive said that from the start. Better than anyone around here will ever be?. Totally false. I know people here that smoke them now. Sorry you feel that way. If they cant get by on their music alone and need to dress like painted fruitcakes...that should tell them something. The "music industry" ruins music.

Shit, lastnight I was chatting with Ken Gray, and he brought up Creed. I like a few Creed songs. Do I like all their music? Hell no. I agree with you for the most part.... But for my point, its almost certain you won't get signed unless you network/know people inside the business. If you don't, you must transform your appearance to fit in. I'll be the first one to admit, I'd sell out in a heartbeat if I knew I would never have to work a 8-4 in my life. I'd do exactly what those assholes wanted until I established myself as being able to handle myself. After that, I'd simply change back to myself and yes, have a career in the music industry. Beats working 40+ a week right? I wouldn't have any problem with people calling me a "sell out" and such.. I think that's mere jealously.

And as far as the musicianship.... Hell yeah I agree you. There are people in youtube world that could whoop their ass as far as shredding and technique. What I'm referring to is song writing ability. I've seen many people that can play metallica and dream theater to a tee. Blues, jazz, you name it, but guess what.. You ask them to play something original and their dumbfounded and its fucking horrible. I judge on ability to express yourself in your original work over if you can play every dimebag solo.

Like Whorror said, I can't imagine him being involved in the writing process. Anything he'd write would be so far from what A7X normally shits out.
