Breaking My Own Silence

Post by DMFJ03 »

It is time to finish this:

E·mo·tion
n.

1) A mental state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort and is often accompanied by physiological changes; a feeling: the emotions of joy, sorrow, reverence, hate, and love.
2) A state of mental agitation or disturbance: spoke unsteadily in a voice that betrayed his emotion. See Synonyms at feeling.
3) The part of the consciousness that involves feeling; sensibility: “The very essence of literature is the war between emotion and intellect” (Isaac Bashevis Singer).

The dictionary definition of the word 'emotion.'

Now...

Expressing yourself is an art form. Some choose to do it with music, some with poetry and pros, others prefer drawing or painting, so on and so forth. To all of you that do these things, and do them well, I tip my hat to you. For those who try to do these things, keep trying because if you stop dreaming, you stop living.

When someone expresses themselves, it is mostly either one of two things, Personal or Situational. The feelings that are held within can be made into anything. No matter how you choose to convey the thought, the emotion is still there and that fact cannot be denied.

I read the post about "Walking On Broken Glass" -- to that I have to say this. Have you never heard of the term "bittersweet"? Maybe the music is up lifting because she really wants to be in this relationship, even though it is always bringing her down. You can't help who you fall in love with. It is an uncontrollable emotion. It is spontaneous. Perhaps the song is telling both sides of the story? The music is displaying the great and wonderful feelings she experience from what is going on, but the lyrics are the twist to everything. I don't care where you are from, where you graduated, what degree you have, how much money you make, or how right you think you are ... you cannot, I repeat, cannot express emotion in a right or wrong way.

You can't ask a person why they did something one way, or why they didn't do it another way because that is what they were feeling at that current moment in time. To feel is to have emotion, and as stated before, you cannot express emotion in a right or wrong way. To life is to dream, to do, and to feel. If not for these things, you might as well slap a barcode on the back of our necks, build us on assembly lines, and tell us how to think and feel.

The final thought is there is no song written without emotion.
The bottom line is there is no right or wrong way to describe what you feel because it is what you feel -- not what someone else feels.

Mr. Dictionary, one more time if you please...
A mental state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort...
Amen
