A public plea to Ron and Jim ..
I was looking at the member list here and noticed that there a quite a few members who have not been here for a while. Also, after looking at the posts of their lasts visits I noticed that most of them voiced that the reason they are not coming here is because of this not being a real music forum. Today's episode with some of the members showed me that things have gone to far.
So with that I am making a public plea to Ron and Jim to remove all political threads & posts, and make it rule that there can be no politics on the board. And to take it one step further. If at anytime a political post is made, either delete it or lock it.
I know some of you are going to be against this and just say that if you don't want to read it then don't enter it. Well, that does not always work as has been proven over the past couple of months.
It is time to turn this back in to a music forum and maybe spare the members we have left ..
Anyone agree?

I have three things to say...
1. Political threads were OK till today when you got beat up on. You actually started quite a few of them.
2. If this turns into a strictly musical forum, it may get boring real fast, IMO. You'll see a lot of stuff like "I bought a new pick, today".
3. Do Ron and Jim feel like babysitting 24/7?

I tried to find this picture I have of a guy beating a dead horse, but I couldn't find it.
I used to bitch about it all the time. I even suggested just making 'The Law' section be allowed to have the politics, that way the general section could be other stuff. But then again, theres football threads, beer threads, weed threads, and everything else that doesnt pertain directly to music.
If anything, add a 'music' section. general can be whatever then

Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

When said delete the threads I was referring to mine as well. There are a couple of people who are on here all the time. So it wouldn't be that hard to have some extras mods or something. The point is that this is something that has brewing for a long time. And today just made me realize how bad it was. I know I got beat up in the aspect of it all. But there have been problems with the political talk for a while now.
a few?? more like 90% has his name starting the topic.witchhunt wrote:Political threads were OK till today when you got beat up on. You actually started quite a few of them.
The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

A public plea to Ron and Jim
I myself have been in the middle of some controversy in the past. In fact, and Ron will verify this .. I was actually banned for a while. Even though most of those at the time were directed at other people and dealt with some politics.
Lately, while I have tried (seemingly poorly) state my pol views on certain things and all it did was piss me off even more. I found out it was not worth it.
Will the RP become boring?? Who freakin' knows. I am in a band and I have a lot of questions about certain things such as is it okay to handle your own booking or find someone else to do it for ya? How do you become established in the area? Who are the best ppl in the area to help out new bands other than friends or ppl I have already come in contact with? Here's a real good one ... how to keep a bar or club from changing your booking?
These questions may seem stupid, but you see, there are bands in here who want to get out there and become known. Im not about making a ton of freakin money because I know it cant be done here and at 45, dont really know how long I will be doin this. Vapor Lock has some good members and we want to make a lot of friends with other bands. Networking in here I think is the key, but you have ppl who hijack threads to make things about them or political. I too agree that Ron and Jim dont want to babysit the website, but yeah, I'm all for clearing the page of all political threads.

Having talent is one thing....what you do with it is something else
Re: A public plea to Ron and Jim ..
I'm all for freedom of speech and you are entitled to your opinion, but it seems like every political thread you start is the same as the last(Obama bashing). Mix it up a bit and I don't think it will be a problem. It probably will get a bit stale without mixing the threads up a bit.f.sciarrillo wrote:

Re: A public plea to Ron and Jim
I agree that the MAIN focus of RP should be music but I like the diversity of the forum. I don't appreciate the political threads but there's nobody holding a gun to my head making me read them. Look back over the last couple days...Rob started a thread about his boy, sstuckey about football, me about horror movies, joltinjeff about snow, jsun76 about shipping costs, and so on. What about people putting things up for sale that aren't instruments? Should these threads be deleted, I don't think so, personally. Now, where do you draw the line on whether a thread has any musical content? Again, let me comment on Rob's thread. In the picture there's a toy in the background that looks like it makes sounds. Rob could say "You should hear my son play that thing", technically, it now becomes a music oriented post, doesn't it? I don't own RP but I think if it becomes bogged down with too many rules and regulations, it will get stale. As long as people try to be somewhat civil with each other, it should be left alone. Just my view.joltinjeff wrote:Will the RP become boring?? Who freakin' knows. Trolling was fun until I caught something that bit me in the ass.

A note to Frank and anyone else who takes RP politics too seriously.
DON'T
Frank, there have been a few times where you annoyed me because you seemed to be trolling, just looking to stir things up. That's not a good idea because you will succeed in ruffling feathers for the wrong reason.
I have respect for undercoverjoe, lonewolf, whitedevilone, RobTheDrummer, songsmith and many more. Because they deal with facts and present their points well, they don't just participate in political threads to ruffle feathers, but to make a well thought out observation or political view.
I have actually had people (one guy in our band) who thought undercoverjoe and I would come to fisticuffs if we ran into each other at an event. Nothing could be further from that happening. We thoroughly enjoy each other's company. We have a common love of music and Joe knows so much history that he is always teaching me something. Sure we rant on RP but we know it's a passionate point of view and it doesn't go beyond that.
I enjoy lonewolf's company. I find him incredibly smart and his knowledge of the constitution enlightening (don't tell him I said that
. I have PM'd him for advice more than once. And he is very helpful.
RobTheDrummer who will often battle with me, once knew our band needed a place to rehearse. He invited us to practice at his house.
My point is that you shouldn't troll or it comes back to bite you. And don't take any political rant from anyone beyond it's posted intention, which is to suggest that I'm right and you're wrong. And in the overall vastness of life's experience one cannot take anything someone says on Rockpage all that seriously.
Life's too short, enjoy it

and anyway
And really, like it or not, music is tied to politics and anything else that makes people feel things passionately, they are one and the same.
It really does work just not reading them, none of it really matters that much anyway. I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours.
I am sure that you are out in the community making a difference Frank, so don't let the crap on RP make you stop. Just keep on making the changes that will help make the world a better place. It starts with one insignificant voice in the wilderness, one gesture of kindness and the whole thing snowballs...
Peace.

hi
it's ironic that this thread is in the general discussion forum. just think for a moment on what general discussion means. i like reading the various posts, some are informitive, while others give me a good chuckle. I like to hear or read what others might be thinking, but maybe that's just me.

Political
NO Ronnie, NO Jimmie, don't run away from the political threats. When life is getting me down, I love to go to rockpage and read all about politics. The mutual love and respect and the kind words for each other helps me realize there is still hope for tomorrow. Debate on my fellow rpers and say a prayer for Congressman John P Murtha. Love him or hate him, he deserves respect.

Re: A public plea to Ron and Jim ..
No. Just make another forum called "The Basement" or something and move all non music topics to there. Otherwise, someone else get's to arbitrarily decide what is politics and what isn't.f.sciarrillo wrote: Anyone agree?
What if someone wants to make a law to ban music in Pennsylvania. Is discussion that music or politics? Or what if the IRS started cracking down on "cash" businesses? What if bars and clubs were levied a tax to pay for hearing damage in the new health care system?
Limiting free speech is always a bad idea. Categorizing the topic of speech is easy to do and doesn't surpress it.

thats funny. my steam locomotive is hovering outide as we speak. anyway to the point. this page is what it is. like or leave it. if you don't like the thread then dont read it. nobody is holding a gun to your head to read a thread or even reply to one. if you can handle what others are gonna say about your post then simply don't post it, same thing applies to READING ONE. changing this page is a mistake, this is what keeps me coming back. its better than a soap opra.BadDazeRob wrote:Just got here in my Delorean from the year 2003.
