I was looking for a chunky but quackable single-coil sized humbucking pickup to fit in the middle position of my H-S-H Steinberger Boat Paddle. I had a Joe Barden in there and it quacked great, but lacked the chunk to really stand out as a solo pickup in the middle position. Few pickups do. I snagged one of these Belcats on eBay for $17, shipped! and it came in today. Just what I was looking for.
1st of all, it isn't 12.6K ohms DC resistance...its more like 8.6K.
It is like a Dimarzio Chopper only a little warmer. The tone and sustain on solo amp settings blew me away. Anybody looking for a hot single coil sized pickup for the bridge position in a Strat-type guitar should give this a try. It is excellent for the middle of an H-S-H too. They don't have the protruding V shaped base at the bottom, so these will fit in any single coil routing.
There are a few el Cheapos up right now--ya gotta watch, they normally sell for around $20 + shipping, but they put them up at $10 + shipping once in awhile. If you want to search for them, go to eBay and type:
belcat strat
There are 2 up right now:
