Nine months later.... THE EMBALMED
I am proud to announce that we have recorded a CD that I think many ppl will enjoy. We have tried to diversify our sound a bit and wanted to incorporate a lot more of our influences on this disc. Please do not just dismiss the band as just another cookie monster band until u have given this monster tune Jason wrote a listen
this is the tune our fellow RP bands have asked us to release for quite some time

The Cd from beginning to completion took 9 months. I have spent insane amounts of hours working on it from my wonderful home studio and I just cant tell u how excited I am to put it into other ppl's hands.
This CD is for you Scott V Ickes. May u continue to rest in peace.

I have heard most of these tunes in an mp3 format and I can't wait to hear them from the cd itself. IMHO,this will be the best sounding local cd in the area this year, this thing kicks!!!!!! The music is well written and the production is over the top!!!! Great job guys, you have a disk to be extremely proud of!!!!

Chad, can you email me an mp3? I will be able to take it home and listen to it on my monitors. Right now, im not at home and on a laptop. Any music sounds like its being played through a can on these tiny little speakers.
Im really excited to hear it. Hopefully Ill get the email before I head back home.

thx guys!
this was a different vibe for us. i wanted a real epic, corrupt sounding anthem and i think we nailed it. it took a couple different turns and arrangements before it came to its final destination, but i think this arrangement really works and takes you on a journey. i was surprised how well it went over live; ppl really dug it big time.
the solo was a funny story for me; it's pretty straight ahead but took forever to write. i had a pretty intricate solo mapped out with some arpeggios and a two finger tapping sequence that was pretty burning but i couldn't make it feel right; it took the song someplace weird and made the reintroduction of the last chorus seem "small" and less satisfying. so then i spent a ridicuolus amount of hours trying to find the perfect "November Rain" type of solo that was a little more "vocal". i learned to hate that fuckin' solo (lol), but i think i made the right choice after hearing it all together with the tune. Killjingle really liked it and i always trust his ears...
hell up!!!

That's an interesting story about the solo, Jason. Sometimes, musicians just can't be that objective with themselves, which is probably one of the reasons why most bands aren't good at self-producing. To make the best music, you have to put your ego on the shelf and make the song the star.

thank you for all the replies, pm's and kind words.
I def pissed my then future wife off with the amount of time that I expended on this. I dont think I ever read so many articles and tutorials in my life. And then theres the whole doing what u read part of it. Its not just read something; then fire up a recording... and everything works. Its wait 3 wks till the drummer has time to set up his kit. Or try to record your own vocals; which is a nightmare in itself. Then try to figure out how to make things work with a band that tunes to dropped Bb.

to be honest Paul...To make the best music, you have to put your ego on the shelf and make the song the star
The unsung heroes and of our band is our rhythm section. Greg enables us to do some pretty awesome stuff and rarely even asks why we are attempting something that is so radically different than our last tune that we may have written. I think he has matured and progressed into one of our area's finest bassists. And I cant deny the amount of thought and effort that Darren put into his arrangements this time around. I think with the much larger drum sound we were able to capture it will allow Darren to receive some recognition for his stellar drumming.
Its a pretty special feeling writing music with these guys. And Im sure other RP'ers feel that way about their bandmates as well.

Greg has definitely evolved as a player and has always played exactly what's right for the music, IMO. Plus, his stage presence is undeniable. He's larger than life when performing, and whether or not people like to admit it, stage presence is incredibly important if you want to be a top tier band. I really like the drumming with a three-piece kit. It seems like it forces Darren to be technical with less, which results in a very huge drum sound with a tom and a kick drum for most of the percussive spice.Killjingle wrote:

One thing I forgot to mention about the production is I like how you mixed yourselves like a two-guitar band, which is obviously important since your stuff is arranged around two seperate guitar parts. Each guitar holds its own sonic space within the mix without stepping on each other. So many recordings, even national recordings by big name producers, have two guitars mixed like there's only one guitar in the band.

I am listening to an advance copy of this disc that Chad sent me, and IT IS KICKING MY FRIGGIN' ASS! These guys stepped it up to the next level. I'm liking it all so far, and I'm only up to "Grave Depression"..."Heaven Below" will make its debut on the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night. And I almost will not be disappointed if the Steelers don't make the playoffs after this weekend, so The Embalmed's scheduled Jan. 24 "Homegrown Rocker" appearance is in no danger of getting postponed!
