Ron...Suggestion
Ron...Suggestion
Ron...I have a suggestion for the "Schedule Editor". Why not put a "TBA" option in the "Day" and the "Time" scroll boxes. I know it would be helpful for the bands that are playing at fundraisers and also when there are multiple bands on a bill. Bands usually confirm a date for such events before they confirm their time slot. Also there are clubs that bands play at every month, but they never get an exact date for each booking until weeks before. I think you know what I mean...just a suggestion.
It would at least benefit me when I'm doing LOST LEDNY'S Rockpage site!!! Thanks...

I like that idea as well.

Hmmm... I'll have to think about that one. That would add a lot of new variables, mainly since the scheduler is sorted by time. All of the TBAs would have to be at the bottom of the list. Making that change would also impact the double-booking check routines, etc.
I guess now that I think about it, announcing a show without a firm date is pretty useless, since people who see it can't make plans. I'm not sure how you guys can get around the dates that are tentative, maybe talk to the club owner and mention that you can draw more people with a more timely notice.
For benefits and multiple band shows, I'm working on a way to add "events" to the scheduler, which will solve those problems. For now, if your time slot in a multi band show isn't known, just put in the start time of the event.
Thanks for your input. I'll keep ypur suggestions in mind when I write the next version.

Another thought... I haven't found it yet on here (so if it is, please don't shoot me)..
Could we set up a "Club Scene Locator"?
Sometimes when we're looking around for a bar to play at or see anothers' band play at, it can't be found. It's not listed in area business's on Yahoo Maps, Map Quest, etc. And if you don't know the exact address or have a number, you're mostly screwed.
Think we could start up a spot for places in the area that have addresses?
Business Name
Phone Number
Address
Something simple like that. Just a thought. And it might help the bands that are just starting to see what bars/spots are in the area that are available to booking bands. Make some business for these bars and an easier step on the bands.
Any thoughts on that?

Never knew that was there, is that so we can call 'em up and ask for Mike Hunt and Richard Smoker and stuff like that?
It would be cool though to have a section almost like the band page for club owners giving info such as, prefered type of music, size of venue, electric available, estimated equipment requirements , etc.

Here's another idea, Ron
For the schedule editor...
Could we actually edit something in the show posting that we made? Say like, you know your having an opener, but not sure who yet so you put down TBA. Well, when you find out and want to go back and fill in the blank, you have to delete your post, create a whole new one just to add the new info. Is there anyway that we could just have it open back up to edit it?

Good suggestion.tonefight wrote:It would be cool though to have a section almost like the band page for club owners giving info such as, prefered type of music, size of venue, electric available, estimated equipment requirements , etc.
Putting together a database and the software to operate it would be easy to do. The tricky part is actually filling the database with accurate info. It is likely that only a handful of club owners that would actually spend the time to fill in all of the blanks. A previous version of Rockpage did have a similar "club info" feature, and it barely got used.
I'll try and think of an effective way to gather the club data and keep it updated, leaving it up to the clubs themselves has proven to be mediocre at best. A new solution is likely to require some volunteers. Any hands?
... and then the wheel fell off.
I was doing something similar to this last year when I was doing the "Weekend Preview" feature on JP's Corner; but organizing it was time-consuming to do on a weekly basis and it got pushed on the back-burner by other duties. If there was a scheduler to enter club dates into, I would be willing to help maintain it and enter new data, etc.
