X-FEST 2K9 - DAYTON OH, ROCKED!!

Post by THEM BONES »

Just rolled back in town after seeing X-Fest 2K9 in Dayton OH, yesterday and what a show!!

The day started off with Halestorm hitting the stage at about noon. They had a tight impressive set. The crowd ate it up. Nikki asked the security guy to send a msg back that a couple friends from PA was there. The band came out of their bus and chatted with us for awhile, Arejay and I remembered doing gigs together at the Crowbar. It was really cool.

We also saw Cavo, Hollywood Undead, and Our Lady Peace. All were pretty good but especially Our Lady Peace. They played all the hits and they were musically spot on and vocally impressive. I forgot how unique the singer's voice is but he nailed everything live.

We missed a few bands traveling back and forth from two stages. Unfortunately I missed Mudvayne - dammit! They went on right before AIC but on a different stage and I wasnt giving up my front row spot for Alice!!

Finally Alice in Chains hit the stage! They ripped through a blistering set starting off with "Rain When I die", the crowd went absolutely nuts! They played "Them Bones", "Damn that River", "Again", and 3 tracks off the new disc "Looking in view", "Check my brain", and one called "Acid Bubble". The band was down to earth talking to fans inbetween songs, Jerry made fun of himself for forgetting the lyrics to "No Excuses", they ripped through "Down In a Hole", "Rooster", "Man In the Box" and encored with "Would" and "Angry Chair".

I gotta say I was skeptical on an Alice without Layne but William DuVall owned it! He had a great presence and damn can this guy sing too!!

I was so close I could of spit on the guys in AIC but sorry, no pics! The crowd was pushing so hard and so many people were crowd surfing, I couldnt even get my cell out without being crushed agains the rail!

Gear wise, Sean Kinney used the kick, snare, 1-rack, 2-floor combo which were all DW Drums, with 2 bongo like drums. All Sabian Cymbals. Cantrell stood in front of a wall of Bogner amps using too many different guitars to mention, and INEZ used Ampeg. DuVall used Marshall when he played. Cantrell's tone was the best guitar tone I've heard in awhile and Inez's bass nearly made the first 10 rows drop the Cosby's in our pants!!

There's a pretty decent AIC tribute band in Raleigh, here, called Them Bones.

...just thought I'd share.
