Letter From Bill Shuster (Legalizing Marijuana)

Post by Banned »

Dear Mr. Aman

Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for legalizing marijuana. I appreciate hearing from you and having the benefits of your views.

In the last session of Congress, H.R. 5843, the Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults was introduced. H.R. 5843 would have removed most federal penalties for the possession of marijuana for personal use. It would have also have removed criminal penalties for the not-for-profit transfer of marijuana for personal use. This legislation was not brought to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote. The bill has not been reintroduced in the 111th session.

Some individuals support legalizing marijuana for medicinal use. While some test have shown marijuana to be effective in alleviating symptoms of certain diseases and disease-related therapies, there are still many detrimental side effects of frequent marijuana use. The FDA has approved a drug (Marinol, also known by it's generic Dronabinol) that does not have many of the harmful side effects of marijuana but acts similarly as an appetite stimulant and anti-nausea agent for individuals suffering through chemotherapy treatments or AIDS. Furthermore, marijuana cannot be prescribed accurately, leading to inaccurate results, something that is not a problem with the FDA approved treatment.

Again, thank you for contacting me. For your convenience, you can receive further information on issues that are important to the Ninth District at http://www.house.gov/shuster. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome.

Sincerely,

BILL SHUSTER

Bill admits to medical value

Post by Mysterytrain »

Part of being considered a schedule 1 drug classifies cannabis to not have any medicinal value. Billy boy just admitted that it DOES have value as a medicine.

At the very least... take it down from schedule 1. But then again, this would greatly reduce the punishment if caught with possession. The war on drugs RELIES on cannabis arrests to justify spending the amount of money it takes for the DEA to exist.

Follow the money, it just keeps flowing into the pockets of our government, oil and pharmaceutical companies and big corporations.
Keep on keepin' on,
Dan
