Who are your favorite local......
Musicians/Performers and why?
Here are some of mine:
Vocalists:
BDR- Dude has CHARISMA! He can really work a crowd, and he's a pretty good singer too.
Jason Straw- You can feel the emotion just watching him sing. Gives me chills.
Matt Watson- The fuckin pipes on this dude are incredible and he's always into it. I've never seen him have a bad time on stage.
Guitarists:
Chad Straw- Not the most technical or fancy, but that his guitar is just an extension of himself when he's playing. If his guitar were a person he would need a new one after every song, cuz it would die from exhaustion.PUMMELING!
Scott Bush- Probably chad's Polar opposite. Usually wanking gets on my nerves, but Scott makes that fucking thing just sing.
Felix- His guitar looks like a turd and He makes it do things i didn't know guitars could do. I don't rerally dig Rock in my blues, but I can literally just watch him play for hours.
Bassists-
Paul Rainey- The fucking Kid can play. I usually don't like when the singer goes wandering around the venue excessively, because it takes away from the stage show. (That's why the stage id\s there after all, right?) But just watching Paul freak on his bass is a show in itself. He makes pop music tolerable for even a pretentious music nazi like myself.
Andrea Weibley- Punk Rock chick on a Bass with talent. 'nuff said.
Tim Mort- He amazes me and makes me very envious of his bass playing. If I could play like him, i'd be a very happy dude.
Drummers:
Bobby watters- That guy can do it all! From Metal to Jazz to blues.
Disciplined and Tasteful are the words that immediately come to mind.
Justin Burkett- Fast but precise. Best drummer I've ever jammed with.
Never overplays, and does more with a basic kit and 1 kick than most Blast beat boners.
Will add more later.
Tell me yours

Soooo many but I will try to limit it here to 3.
Bass----Jeff Clapper. How does Felix play a song like "Green Grass and High Tides" with only 1 guitar in his hands, yet it still sounds great? Because he has Jeff Clapper standing right next to him thumping on that '64 Fender bass. (Robert Waters cannot be left out here either.)
Guitar---Jason Feathers. Listen to the Flame Sky song "The Creature" on their myspace. Listen to the guitar tone in the solos. It is tortured.
http://www.myspace.com/theflamesky
Drums---Nate Woods. Nate has his own style for sure, with a little of Matt Abts and Michael Schrieve's jazz, blues, rock fusion sound.

One of my favorite guitarists to watch and have had the pleasure to play with is Scott Rigo of The Defining Hour. He does so much intricate work that is both subtle and amazingly tasteful. He is such a great player.
Matt Birk is one of my favorite drummers to watch as well. He blends so many styles fluently into his playing. Listen to more than his feet and his hands are equally impressive. He does some great, creative and down right difficult stuff.
Nico from Solegion is also really impressive to watch. I have kind of grown up with him in the scene and watching him progress has been great. I remember once stepping in to do some temp work for a band when he was unable to play a couple shows. That was such a clinic for me to play his parts.
Vocalist would have to be Krystal from Acalasia. Her voice is so strong but so crisp and fresh. She has a great range and her voice compliments the music so well. The band as a whole is one of my favorites in the area.
Bassists, Timmy from Martydom and Scathe stood out to me but other than that, I hate to say it, I really don't have much of a favorite based simply on their playing. However, Mike from The Defining Hour would be my favorite person who just happens to play bass, haha.

I'll exclude a coupl'a my bandmates (Jas and Rob) because they really are my
faves around. Outside of them, I'll focus on frontpeople first, because they are...
out front. Those who have stood out:
Brian, formerly of Plush
Brian Storm of Mia Mafia
BDR o' BD
because ALL of these guys just kick it up and make themselves the focus. All
of them are surrounded by superb musicians, but can, and do, take the onus
of being the focal point and know how to handle that weight and embrace.
Honourable mention to Dusty, formerly of us, who might not have worked out
with us, but was THE guy you could count on knowing any song you'd mentioned
on a whim and handling it like a pro. A worker, and that's the ultimate compliment.
Also, to Chrissy for being a great voice, and handling well all the stuff that a
woman has to deal with in this..and looking fabulous doin' so.
Bass to C-Moore, whom a lot of you don't know, but can step in at a moment's
notice and do a great show. Paul, o' BD, is one of the few ever who can put on
a symposium on bass and how to approach a simple "pop" song while playing
like Geddy. Also, John Cimino of OCB.
Drums to Trav (Formerly of Plush and Pushing Red), JimBags, Calv ("Jones",
of Serious Jones) can jump genre to genre is always great. Mike Hughes,
with Loudmouth. Branderson, now with RTL, is like Jas in that he's a total song
guy who plays what's perfect stuff for every song and knows when to fill space
or leave some.
Guitar, Genre-specific, Mr. Kane, period. While I'm not big on ye ol' Dokken-
type stuff, CK is an awesome player of that genre, plus, does a great show.
Not to mention...while I go for a pitcher of water...the man goes for a pitcher
of beer per. Thunder Alley baby.
All of that said, Jas and Rob are THE guys. I'm lucky and honoured all the time
to walk out with them.

Thanks for the compliment, brian.
i agree with a few mentioned already (rob and paul of bad daze, felix and bobby from the 'canes) but here are a few of my favs...
vocalists
brian stotler (fedup/side effects)-no, not 'cuz he gave me kudos...but anyone who can growl AND sing like this dude gets a nod from me. always enjoyed watching him even before i really go to know him.
grant matthews (ten sent wings/locked inside)-he fronted my all time favorite local band ten sent wings. his voice is great.
guitarists
marty scrap (the scraps)-he is an insanely fast rhythm guitarist. out of all the guitarists i know, he comes closest to matching the downstroke of johnny ramone.
scott bush (fed up)-the dude can shred.
bassists
chet lafferty (tombstone radio)- a guitarist now, but used to play bass in the fisticuffs with me. he has a matt freeman type style to his playing.
timmy mort (chapter 5)- the dude's playing is insane.
drummers
abe webber (marauders) -i'm not sure how to describe his playing style, but his drumming really made their songs special.
adam smith (the avant garde) -he is a very tight drummer and fun to watch.
favorite guitarist to go on a drug deal with
pat flaw (side effects/scraps/bambi's bullet)- pretty good guitarist. one time the side effects were ready to party. a few of us went to buy some cocaine. we pick up the dude so we can get our shit. pat says "hey you look familiar...what's your last name" the dude almost killed pat.

Having seen Justin play a coupl'a times, this is good enough fer me. ANYONEDrumAndDestroy wrote: guitarists

who has the Johnny Ramone down-picking down, I gotta like. Lotta people
think J.R. wasn't all that good because he didnt'/couldn't "solo". He did his
thing for the song and, DANG the guy could do it all on downstrokes. Cool.

I tried to do this. I actually had about 4 paragraphs written then deleted it. I really don't want anyone that I didn't mention to feel "dissed." (Not that my opinion matters that much anyway)
I've only ever seen one or two "horrible" bands in the 25 years I've been going out to see bands around here.
Keep doing what you do, and I'll keep coming out to watch!
Rock on!

Thank you so much for the very cool compliments. It means a lot to get accolades from one's peers.
There are a myriad of local and regional musicians whom I admire as both people and players. As Bag says, I don't want to miss someone's name, so I'll just say that if I'm out at your show on a night off or I'm talking to you with excitement in my voice, I dig what you're doing.
Sorry for the run-on sentence there, Captain G.

I forgot all about Pat doing that. hahahahahahahaha!
Keep'em coming!
I was thinking about making a thread about "If you could put together a local 'Super-Group', who would be in it?", and these names all kept popping in my head, so I just made this thread instead.
Lot's of talent around here. And lot's of people who are passionate about what they do, and that gets me more than anything. Watching somebody do something they truly love to do is awesome.

If I hurt anyones feelings cuz I didn't mention you:
Gristle up, you pussy! lol
J/K kinda. But, these are just some of my personal faves not the only people I like, and we all have diff. tastes. I would never get mad if someone did not like my singing/band. Of course, some people would really get bent out of shape about it.

My favs are the bands/musicians that are willing help others.
I've only been playing out for about 5 years....But i've experienced enough to know there are some really bogus wankers that only care about themselves out there!
That is like every day life in general I suppose. A good example of someone on here that is willing to give props and help out is Dave Plisco or Ventgtr. He is the kinda person that is willing to actually go out of his way to help others. Good person, great guitarist, and a total pro! Actually the whole band "Vent" is one the everyone should check out! Great musicians! Dave helped out with getting me a gig with my new band "Represent The Lie"....Which im VERY happy with because they are great guys/musicians too!
So in general....The cool dudes that arent full of themselves are my fav's. And I know there are alot of good dudes and dudettes around here! Any style...cover band, original band, country, punk, metal, pop..ect..

Vocalist - Andrew McNasty formerly of Condemned Existence. I love the way he screams and the overall tone of his voice. Cant understand what he's saying, but all's good.
I also like Steve's voice from Slacker Theory. I like that whole band really. It just all works good together.
Guitarist (s) - Tom Brown is prob my fav in this immediate area. I just love his style because it's the same type of music and style that Im into. I loved taking lessons from him because we would jam Judas Priest, old metal like Savatage, etc...
Scott Bush is another one of my mother fuckers, but he plays a Dean. Thats ok cause I turn my head and pretend he's not.
Bassist - Kent Tonkin. I'll just leave it at that. I'd love to jam with this dude some day.
Drums - Shane Bushmire is currently not in a band right now, but I had to mention him because he just pounds. Reminds me of old Igor Cavalera (Sepultura/Cavalera Conspiracy)
I really like Toonarockguy's style as well. I'd like to jam with him some day as well.
Cowbell - BDR represent!
Skinflute - Scott Bush. I know I mentioned him, but he's missing his calling with this instrument. You should hear his solo that he laid down last night! LOL kidding bro! (I know, you're so glad Im back huh?)
I also like Ron and JP's style because they can moderate like a bastard.
I know Ron plays guitar, but I havent heard him. Not sure if Jim plays anything. (Radio and PA Lottery dont count) Anyone know for sure?

Drummers: Rob Bonsell, Clint Carothers
Guitarists: Chris Silva, Dalton McDonald
Bassists: Chris Lawson, Tim Mort
Singers: Steve Danfelt, Ben Dumm
Screamers: Jason Mittan, Andrew from Condemned Existance
There are a lot of people I've seen who I thought were great but I don't know their names...
I just think that these guys all fit the style they play really well. Maybe you think differently, that's cool. I'm not saying they are the "best" or that there aren't 1,000 other great players who fit their style really well, because there are... and I'm sure no one is gonna be butt hurt over my opinion.

Someday you'll get over that. What's wrong with praising/recognizing people for being awesome at what they do? If they were your fave "national" musicians, would you feel different?

Ok, I thought of some. even though i didnt want to say because it singles people out, but the people should be recognized for their talents. ill add more as i think of them. i have time to think now that the boy is down for a nap.
vocalists-
Brian from Fedup/the side effects- Truly inspiring. Just an awesome frontman. Alive like no other. The comments he makes on stage, or even at a practice is pure gold. Im happy to have him as a friend. He should be a motivational speaker btw.
Ken Gray- Great singer. If you didnt get a chance to see Blackout with him, you missed out. He showed me that staying in key IS possible!!!
Bassists-
when I think of bassists that stand out, I think Kent Tonkin (Lies Inc) & Paul Rainey (Bad Daze). If youve seen either of them play, you know why. Killer players.
Drummers-
Randy Wilson from way down east / ex- condemned existence, blackout, & baddaze. I listed the bands he's been in because this guy can play whatever you throw at him. from crazy double bass stuff, to poison's greatest hits, haha. he can do it.
Bobby Waters- What a drummer! Again, another guy who can do it all!!
I remember him throwing in some fast double bass in during a Hurricane's set last summer. Incredible!!! I couldnt believe it!!!
Guitarists-
A Tale of Two Scotts, haha.
Scott Bush & Scott Botteicher fucking bring it, man. Fingers of F'n Fury.
Guitarist Honorable Mention: Steve Bush. Filled in on guitar for Condemned Existence. Imagine what would have been.
I could list more, but my knees are starting to hurt.
