California to legalize Pot .. Maybe

Post by f.sciarrillo »

How about this one? What do you think it would do? They were saying on the news today that if they do they will charge 50.00 tax per ounce. Talk about getting their money back lol ...

Arnold is against it .. But who knows what will happen ..

all you ever hear people say " they should legalize it , then they could tax it. :? thats the dumbest thing i ever heard.

How much do you think you'll pay for an ounce? will it be less than 130 bucks? i doubt it.

Can't the inverse be true?

Taxes don't seem to hurt tobacco sales much either... :)

Agreed. My guess is that a lot of people would just grow it, effectively cutting out the middle man and the government. You don't have to be a botanist to grow a stash.

It needs decriminalized, though. You couldn't make an Epic Fail meme strong enough to describe the War on Drugs.

Don't see people growing their own tobacco products very much :)

pot legal

Post by Raven »

let's hope pot is legalised. i know it will take the right timing.
i go a little further and believe all drugs should be legal but closely monitored. there should be safe havens for people to take a fun acid trip. kinda like and lsd disneyland. that would be cool.
i dont like all drugs but the war on drugs is a waste of time and money. Alcohol is legal and probably the most lethal drugs out there. i't should stay legal but also monitored closely. for those of you that dont know, a person can only drink 4 drinks an hour legally. we all know people who are alchoholics and get drunk before that limit. If they were to quit cold turkey, good chance they could die. it's all just sad and messed up.
do what you will but BE CAREFUL.

I dont smoke anymore, but there was a day....

Im greatly in favor for legalizing, but not for the reason of getting high legally (which is a totally cool perk). Most of the pot smokers Ive known in my lifetime, which is a lot, are pretty benign people. The reason I choose not to smoke anymore is because it zaps my motivation. But anyway...

- Take the legs out of the drug cartels partially by eliminating one of their primary income sources. It would be similar to the bootleggers and underground crime syndicates who pushed alcohol back in the day. There would no longer be a need for them. Heroin, cocaine, meth and the rest Im not in favor of legalizing. There would be money saved in trying to eradicate pot and those who traffic it. The war on drugs is a huge money sink with very little in return.

- Reduce the numbers of people in the jail systems and stop wasting the money it costs to keep them incarcerated. This is a huge problem and cost in this country. The punishment does not fit the crime in the majority of these cases....it needs to stop.

- Tax it just like alcohol and tobacco. This could provide a much needed revenue source for the states and federal government. Everything else is taxed, so why the hell not pot.

- Another big reason not discussed often, is the boost this could give to the American agriculture industry. Its needed....badly! We are one of the major food suppliers to the world, but with development and loss of prime ag land we are in real danger of not only losing that status, but it becoming a real national security issue in the decades to come for the US. I know of this firsthand because it is somewhat related to the type of work I do for my day job. The loss of ag land in this country over the last 40 years is mind boggling.

- Its more than getting high! There are whole new industries and products that could be reborn or invented for this unique plant. Grow it here and grow it now.

When more people start realizing its not just the fun drug for potheads and that there's a lot to be gained economically, the more likely it is to becoming legal.

It feels like we are getting very, very close. California will probably lead the way. I hope it does.

This is a on the fence type of thing for me. Well, there are a couple of issues that are on the fence with me; as I agree that legalizing it with barriers and to an extent would help. I do not agree that hard drugs should be legalized though. Look at statistics and you will see the rate of deaths from them and see that they out weigh the rate from alcohol related deaths ...

Agreed! A lot of hard drugs these days cause a lot of big crime. Pot is mostly just misdemeanor stuff, and being caught with it. More of it is just surrounding having it than the results of it. The few other things will drop back with a legalizing it

Tobacco is actually pretty hard to grow... it once required slave labor. Pot: Actual weed. Grows anywhere once the seed is planted.
I've been hearing murmurs about legalization since 1978 or so, but never more than now. I don't think it's the be-all/end-all that will save the economy, but it really is time to end the needless stupidity.--->JMS

Haha, really I don't mind those that smoke occasionally. It's the ones that will use their welfare money to buy weed. They already have a lack of motivation to work, this will just make it even worse. That's my only big issue with marijuana, well I guess that and the health problems from breathing in toxins...

i don't know about a total waste of a human...i'm sure there are burnouts who would fit into that category, though. my point was that someone sitting at their own home and smoking weed is better than going out to a bar and drinking a little too much then getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.

but, you're exactly right about people using the welfare money to buy shit that they don't need. i would bet they use a lot of it at a six pack shop though...fuck them. it makes me sick seeing someone at sheetz use an ebt card...then take their free food out to their lincoln navigator.

Yea, waste of a human is a bit too far. I think legal weed would hurt the scene. There would be more people staying at home to get high, rather than going out to drink.

good point...which comes back to the "smoke bar" discussion. if it were to become legal...would it have to be a separate entity? or could you have a "toke zone" at a bar? my guess would be no because the opposition would argue that it would be too dangerous to have both at one place. at this point, you're alienating groups of people who might want to see a live band.

I think a sign on the door that says 'We smoke dope here. If you dont like it, gtfo. ktnx' is sufficient.
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.
